Wild weekend postpones Macca’s Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 September, 2008 : - - Maroubra Beach, NSW – As wild weather lashed the eastern seaboard this past weekend, Macca’s Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage was unfortunately postponed due to dangerous conditions.

With 3-4m, stormy seas battering the beaches of the Sutherland Shire, it was decided by contest director Phil Macdonald that the conditions were not conducive to the format of the event, or, the safety of the competitors. “The conditions were too dangerous for the kids and their safety is the number one priority,” Macdonald stated.

“This contest is about fun and gaining confidence at all levels of junior surfing, and the conditions definitely would not have let us achieve this.” Putting a spin on the traditional surfing contest with his Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage, Macdonald will be bringing to event back to Cronulla in November.

“After assessing the conditions and looking at the swell forecasts for the weekend, it was decided to postpone the Teenage Rampage to a date in November,” Macdonald said. Macca’s Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage provides an innovative and fresh approach to the traditional junior surfing competition in an effort to unearth the new wave of Australian surfing talent.

Unlike other surfing competitions, Macca’s Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage allows competitors (16 years and under) to surf three heats each without elimination instead of the traditional cutthroat format.

The event, which is the one of four Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage events being staged throughout the year, will act as a qualifying event to the Ocean & Earth International Teenage Rampage to be held at Curl Curl in December.  Looking forward to November, Macdonald is excited about the prospect of holding the event in a more suitable setting.

“Thanks for all the parents and kids for turning and cant wait for to see everyone rip on a nice sunny weekend.”

Macca’s Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage is proudly supported by Vodafone, Red Bull, Cool Shoe Corporation, Podsurf.TV, Fluid Adventures, Byrne Surfboards and Surfing NSW.
