Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 18 September, 2008 : - - Hossegor, France -- The only French leg of the 2008 ASP World Tour will begin on 19th September in Hossegor and Seignosse with the top names in the male surfing world taking part.

More than ever before, star competitor Kelly Slater will be the focus of keen attention. Already leading the championship standings and winning five of this season’s first seven legs, the Floridian legend has the opportunity to blow a 9th world title in France. Frenchman Jérémy Florès, ranked n°10, is also on fire after placing 3rd of the Trestles event in California last week. Miky Picon will be one of the men to follow. The local of Capbreton knows these beach breaks better than anyone. 

Contest directors Rod Brooks (Australia) and Charley Puyo (France) will try to find the possible best conditions in the 10 days waiting period starting Friday 19 till Sunday 28th of September. According to the forecast, a new swell should arrive this week end and get stronger next Tuesday. First round of the Quiksilver Pro France could be in the water this week end. The King of the Groms International Final gathering world’s 16 and under surfers, could be launched as well on Saturday.

The Quiksilver Pro France main podium is settled on Plage de la Gravière in Hossegor. Thanks to a mobile podium, the contest directors will probably decide to move the event to the neighbouring beach of les Estagnots in Seignosse to find the best conditions.

Draw completed : Tim Boal wins the Komunity Trials

The 7th edition of the Quiksilver Pro France started today with the Komunity Trials.
Tim Boal took the best from the small conditions at the Estagnot by winning a wild card for the Quiksilver Pro France comboing the three other finalists in the process, and winning the heats in Rounds 1 and 2 of the trials.

Michel Bourez (Tahiti), Joan Duru (France) and Tim Boal (France) winner of today’s trials, get the wildcards and complete the final draw of the event.

Leonardo Neves (BRA) and Dean Morrison (AUS) have pulled out of the Quiksilver Pro citing injuries. ASP Replacement Nic Muscroft (AUS) has accepted one spot and the other vacancy has yet to be confirmed. The complete draw will be distributed once the other replacement surfer has been named.

Swellnet forecaster Ben Matson is confident for a start to the Quiksilver Pro on Saturday, though conditions will be assessed on Friday as well. "A series of low pressure systems between Greenland and Iceland this week have generated a new northwest swell that's expected to arrive on Friday afternoon, peaking around 1.5m on Saturday with clean conditions under a moderate offshore breeze," Matson said.

Le Quiksilver Pro France commence demain !

L’unique manche française de l’ASP World Tour 2008 débute demain vendredi 19 septembre à Hossegor et Seignosse en présence de l’élite mondiale du surf masculin.

La star américaine Kelly Slater (vainqueur de 5 des 7 premières manches de la saison !) a une belle carte à jouer en France puisqu’il est en mesure de remporter ici son 9ème titre de Champion du Monde. Le français Jérémy Florès, 10ème mondial, qui reste sur une magnifique 3ème place à Trestles (Californie) la semaine dernière, sera également parmi les favoris. Sans oublier le landais Miky Picon, dont c’est la 2ème année parmi le Top 45, qui connaît les ‘beach breaks’ landais mieux que personne.  

La direction de la compétition assurée par l’australien Rod Brooks et le local Charley Puyo dispose d’une fenêtre de 10 jours (jusqu’au 28 septembre) pour effectuer cette 8ème manche du Championnat du Monde de Surf 2008. La houle devrait être au rendez-vous dès samedi 20 septembre. Le premier tour pourrait donc être lancé dès ce week end, tout comme la finale internationale du King of the Groms, compétition qui réunit l’élite mondiale des surfeurs de 16 ans et moins. Un nouvelle houle est attendue à partir de mardi et devrait offrir de belles vagues pour le milieu de la semaine prochaine.

Si le site principal de l’événement est situé Plage de la Gravière à Hossegor, la compétition pourrait débuter sur la plage des Estagnots à Seignosse où le site mobile a été installé.

Tony Hawk à Hossegor
En parallèle de cette manche de l’ASP World Tour, le Quiksilver Pro France accueille une immense star, le skateur américain de légende Tony Hawk pour un show inédit sur rampe avec ses acolytes Andy Mac Donald, Sergie Ventura, etc… Une grande rampe a été érigée Place des Landais à Hossegor, face à la mer, pour accueillir ce show qui promet d’être magique. Rendez-vous Samedi 20 septembre à partir de 20h.
