Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 October, 2008 : - - Florianopolis, Brazil -- On a beautiful thursday of sunshine and good waves of 3 to 5ft, the Billabong Pro Ladies - Costao do Santinho already defined the semifinalistas that will decide the title of the 12th stop of the Women’s WQS Tour on Saturday in Florianopolis (SC).

The first heat will be a true classic of brazilian surfers between the experienced Brazilians Jacqueline Silva and Tita Tavares. Already the other semifinal will be a dispute between the young surfers Paige Hareb from New Zealand and Silvana Lima also from Brazil.

With the classification into the semifinals, Silvana Lima already secured the title of South American Champion at Costao do Santinho, even before the final stop of the Women's 2008 ASP South America Surf Series in Arpoador Beach next week at Rio de Janeiro.

"Only yesterday (Wednesday) I saw on the Internet that I was in the fight for the title and all South American title is important and nice to win, then I am very happy. It is like a prize for being the best surfer in the three stops of Billabong events in Brazil, so I’m representing very well my sponsor” said Silvana Lima, which is sponsored by Billabong, soon after winning the last heat of Billabong Ladies Pro - Costao do Santinho on Thursday, without knowing yet that the South American title had been secured in advance.

Silvana also commented about the tough heat against a former WCT top surfer, the Australian Claire Bevilacqua, who remained tied with the Hawaiian Bethany Hamilton in tenth place in the WQS ranking that is sorting through the ninth to the 2009 World Tour. "If you give soft, she leads. She already won at me sometimes. The waves was not so good, and she couldn’t get the score that she needed to win. So that’s it, I move through, but it was not easy" said the new South American Professional Champion.

She won the most important event of 2,000 points in Praia do Forte beach, stage of the Billabong ECO Surf Festival in northern coast of Bahia State, them stayed in fifth place in the semifinals of the Billabong Girls Pro Rio in Barra da Tijuca at Rio de Janeiro and now move into the semifinals of Billabong Ladies Pro - Costao do Santinho reaching up to the moment 4.010 points in the ASP South America rating. Brazilian Tita Tavares still in second place in the ranking, and even she wins this event in Florianopolis on Saturday and also in Arpoador next week at Rio, can only reach 4.005 points.

Tita Tavares won the first semifinal defeating another surfer from Brazil, Krisna de Souza by 13.25 x 7.00 points. "I had never surfing here at Santinho Beach and the waves are difficult but great, I’m surfing well and my boards are really good too. I made my job and now I have to focus in my semifinal and look for another victory, this is always my goal in competitions" promised Tita, which will make a revival heat against the pioneering partner of Brazilians surfers in the ASP Women’s World Tour.

Jacqueline Silva won the confrontation of the only two Brazilians surfers who currently appear in the classification zone for the 2009 ASP Women's Tour. With more experience, the number 7 won the heat against the sixth in the rating, the young brazilian surfer Bruna Schmitz, who is part of the list of six best surfers of the year since the start of the season. "It was a good heat against Bruna, which is disputing points in the ranking to classify into the Women’s Tour next year and by misfortune we fall together on the same heat, but this time I surfed better" said Jacqueline Silva.

"Now we have a day off, because on Friday will just roll the Billabong Pro Junior, then I will train even more to try a good result here, because I competing at home and a lot of people are supporting me, the waves are getting better and I believe that we will have good waves on Saturday to close the event in great conditions, hopefully with me in first place" wishes Jacqueline Silva.

Then in next heat was Brazilian Diana Cristina, who tried everything to overcome Paige Hareb from New Zealand and continue defending the title of champion in Costao do Santinho, but the beautiful surfer from New Zealand won with a wide advantage of 12.30 x 5.05 points.

"I'm happy, Was a beautiful day today, the waves improved and I knew it would be difficult to compete against Diana, because she surf very well, I know her and i know that she already won here on this beach, so I only stayed calm when the heat ended. But, I still have to pass another heat to increase my points in the ranking, because I only change my score here if I reach the final" said Paige Hareb.

Silvana Lima já é campeã sul-americana no Billabong Ladies Pro

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 October, 2008 : - - Florianopolis, Brazil - - Numa bela quinta-feira de sol e boas ondas de 1,5 metro de altura, o Billabong Ladies Pro - Costão do Santinho já definiu as semifinalistas que vão decidir o título da 12.a etapa do WQS Feminino no sábado em Florianópolis (SC). A primeira bateria será um verdadeiro clássico do surfe brasileiro entre as experientes Jacqueline Silva e Tita Tavares.

Já a outra vaga na final sairá de uma disputa da nova geração entre Paige Hareb da Nova Zelândia e Silvana Lima. Com a classificação, a cearense já garantiu o título de campeã sul-americana por antecipação no Costão do Santinho, antes mesmo da última etapa feminina do ASP South America Surf Series 2008 na Praia do Arpoador, semana que vem na capital do Rio de Janeiro.

“Só ontem (quarta-feira) vi na internet que eu estava na briga pelo título sul-americano e todo título é importante e gostoso de conquistar, então estou muito feliz. É como se fosse um prêmio por ter sido a melhor nas três etapas da Billabong no Brasil, então estou representando bem a marca”, disse Silvana Lima, que é patrocinada pela Billabong, logo após vencer a última bateria do Billabong Ladies Pro – Costão do Santinho na quinta-feira, sem saber ainda que o título sul-americano já havia sido garantido por antecipação.

A cearense também comentou sobre o duro confronto com uma ex-top do WCT, a australiana Claire Bevilacqua, que permaneceu empatada com a havaiana Bethany Hamilton em décimo lugar no ranking que está classificando até a nona colocada para a elite mundial de 2009. “Se der mole, ela leva. Já ganhou de mim algumas vezes, ganhei outras e o mar não estava tão bom, não tinham muitas ondas boas e ela não conseguiu a nota que precisava para virar. É isso aí, passei mais uma, mas não foi fácil”, contou a nova campeã sul-americana profissional.

Ela venceu a etapa mais importante de 2.000 pontos na Praia do Forte, palco do Billabong Surf ECO Festival que estreou no litoral norte da Bahia, ficou em quinto lugar nas semifinais do Billabong Girls Pro Rio na Barra da Tijuca e com a classificação para as semifinais do Billabong Ladies Pro – Costão do Santinho alcançou insuperáveis 4.010 pontos no ranking da ASP South America.

A também cearense Tita Tavares no momento ocupa o segundo lugar e mesmo que vença esta etapa em Florianópolis no sábado e também a do Rio de Janeiro no Arpoador, a tetracampeã brasileira só consegue atingir 4.005 pontos.

A baixinha conquistou a primeira vaga nas semifinais derrotando a potiguar Krisna de Souza por 13,25 x 7,00 pontos. “Eu nunca tinha surfado aqui no Santinho e tem altas ondas, estão difíceis, mas estou gostando muito dessa onda, o surfe está no pé, as pranchas também, foi mais uma bateria com o trabalho bem feito, agora é se concentrar para a semifinal e vou em busca de mais uma vitória, esse sempre é meu objetivo nas competições”, prometeu Tita, que fará um revival contra a companheira de pioneirismo do Brasil na elite mundial do WCT.

A catarinense Jacqueline Silva ganhou o confronto das duas únicas brasileiras que no momento aparecem na zona de classificação para o ASP Women´s Tour do ano que vem. Com mais experiência, a número 7 ganhou da sexta colocada, a jovem paranaense Bruna Schmitz, que faz parte da lista das seis que sobem pelo WQS desde o início da temporada. “Foi uma bateria boa com a Bruninha, que está disputando pontos no ranking para se classificar pro WCT e por infelicidade caímos juntas na mesma bateria, mas nessa me dei melhor”, disse Jacque Silva.

“Agora tem um dia de descanso, porque na sexta-feira só rola Pro Junior, então vou treinar ainda mais para tentar um bom resultado aqui, pois estou competindo em casa, tem bastante gente torcendo por mim e o mar, apesar das ondas terem diminuído um pouco, melhorou em relação ao primeiro dia. Acredito que vamos ter boas ondas no sábado também para fechar o campeonato bonito, tomara que com uma vitória minha né!”, deseja a catarinense.

Depois, entrou no mar a paraibana Diana Cristina, que tentou tudo para superar Paige Hareb e continuar defendendo o título de campeã no Costão do Santinho, mas a bela surfista da Nova Zelândia ganhou bem com um largo placar de 12,30 x 5,05 pontos.

“Estou feliz, amanheceu um lindo dia hoje, as ondas melhoraram e eu sabia que ia ser difícil enfrentar a Diana, pois ela surfa muito bem, já a conheço, sei que ela venceu aqui nessa praia já, então só tranqüilizei quando acabou a bateria. Mas, ainda tenho que passar mais uma para aumentar meus pontos no ranking, porque só troco resultado se chegar na final aqui”, contou Paige Hareb.
