Brazilian Silvana Lima wins the Billabong Ladies Pro at Costao do Santinho       >  Portuguese embaixo

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 October, 2008 : - - Florianopolis, Brazil -- On a Saturday of rain, but with good waves of 1 to 2ft, the South American champion Brazilian Silvana Lima gave a show in the final against the Brazilian Tita Tavares at Costão do Santinho. The Billabong Ladies Pro sealed the return of friendship between the two surfers, that falling out after the semifinals of the Billabong Girls WQS in Rio de Janeiro.

The victory with a score of 16.75 x 6.50 points sacrament the South American title of Silvana Lima, that she won in advance on Thursday, when she passed into the semifinals of the event.  The decision of the Billabong Ladies Pro – Costão do Santinho was the last of the day, with Silvana Lima already dropping a good wave of 7.0 points in her first wave.

Betting in the rights who offers a better space for maneuvers, Silvana increased her advantage with a 7.5 score in the second wave, with these two scores being exchanged for a 8.00 and 8.75 waves in the last two presentations of the South American Champion of 2008. Brazilian Tita Tavares didn’t find the waves, and just surfed a regular wave of 5.5 points.

"I was seeing this rights since the beginning of the event and they came to me in the final. I am happy because I surfed well. Too bad it didn’t have good waves for us two, because Tita almost didn’t get anything.

This is the first time that we compete together in a final, and we were able to show the power of Ceara state surfing in this event” said Silvana Lima, who was questioned about the fight with Tita in Rio de Janeiro. "Thank God that this has been overcome and I only have to apologize to all once again for my attitude there in Barra da Tijuca".

Despite failing to show her best surfing in the great final, the 4x times Brazilian National Champion Tita Tavares liked the result and also talked about the return of friendship with Silvana Lima. "The sea was difficult right in the final, almost no waves came and Silvana got all the good one that came on the final heat, deserving the victory.

But I am happy to have made the final and also for having talked to her, telling her that I know her since she was younger and I will never hate it, I wish the best for her in the WCT and I know that she has potential to be World Champ one day, like she proved today" spoke Tita Tavares.

Before the final of the Billabong Ladies Pro – Costão do Santinho, Tita Tavares won a true classic of Brazilian surf against Jacqueline Silva, the two pioneers surfers from Brazil in the World Tour. Already Brazilian Silvana Lima took the last foreign surfer in the event in the second semifinal, the beautiful surfer from New Zealand, Paige Hareb, who maintained the fifth place in the WQS ranking, while Silvana Lima jumped from 22th place to tenth position in the general classification of the first twelve events of the year.

The next event is coming in Rio de Janeiro next week, but Silvana and Jacqueline will fly to Australia on Sunday to compete in a WCT event. The Surfer from Santa Catarina State wanted the title, but the dream of a victory in Brazil will have to wait. "Postponed right, the condition of the sea today was hard, almost did not have waves during my heat and Tita dominate the small waves and moved on.

It was time that we do not compete together, Tita is not competing in the World Tour anymore, and now she only runs the Brazilian National Events who also I can not compete because the Women’s World Tour, then was cool, even more in a woman-to-woman heat, but unfortunately the waves didin’t collaborated.

Tita is accumulating important titles in Brazil, she is a top surfer and I hope that she can get a nice sponsor to support her to come back and compete in the World Tour, because she certainly has the potential to join me, Silvana (Lima) and Bruna (Schmitz), which is entering the WCT through the WQS" said Jacqueline Silva, who shared the third position with the surfer from New Zealand Paige Hareb.

In Florianopolis, also was defined the team that will represent South America in the next ASP World Pro Junior's, in addition to the champions of South American under-21, the winners of the last Billabong Pro Junior Series of the year was the Brazilians Alex Ribeiro and Diana Cristina. Besides them, the others Brazilians Alejo Muniz, Ricardo dos Santos, Alex Lima, Magno Pacheco and Nathalie Martins also completed the South American team that will compete in Australia in the first days of January 2009.

The Billabong Ladies Pro - Costao do Santinho is presented by Brasil Telecom and is sponsored by Costao do Santinho Resort & Spa, GOL Airlines, Santa Catarina State Goverment, FUNDESPORTE of Secretaryship from the Turism, Culture and Sports of Santa Catarina, with co-sponsorship by Von Zipper, Kustom and Nixon with the support of Spider Surf Shop, Tao Pilates, Florianopolis City Council, Fundacao Municipal de Esportes and ASIS (Associação de Surf Ingleses e Santinho).

The event has the support by MG2 Projetos and Billabong, with Ric Record and It´s promotion and by Website Waves, Drop News and Fluir, Hardcore, Solto and Blackwater Magazine, also sanctioned by the Association of Surfing Professionals - ASP South America, Santa Catarina Surf Federation (FECASURF) and Brazilian Surfing Confederation (CBS).

Silvana Lima vence uma decisão cearense no Billabong Ladies Pro

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 October, 2008 : - - Florianopolis, Brazil - - No sábado de chuva, mas de boas ondas de meio a 1 metro de altura, a campeã sul-americana Silvana Lima deu um show praticamente “solo” na final cearense com a tetracampeã brasileira Tita Tavares no Costão do Santinho.

O Billabong Ladies Pro selou a volta da amizade entre as duas, que se desentenderam após as semifinais do Billabong Girls WQS no Rio de Janeiro. A vitória com um largo placar de 16,75 x 6,50 pontos sacramentou o título sul-americano de Silvana Lima conquistado por antecipação na quinta-feira, quando passou para as semifinais.

Em Florianópolis, também foi definida a equipe que representará a América do Sul no próximo Mundial Pro Junior da ASP, além dos campeões sul-americanos sub-21, títulos que ficaram com os vencedores do último Billabong Pro Junior Series do ano, o paulista Alex Ribeiro e a paraibana Diana Cristina.

Além deles, os catarinenses Alejo Muniz, Ricardo dos Santos e Alex Lima, o paulista Magno Pacheco e a paranaense Nathalie Martins completaram o time sul-americano que vai competir na Austrália nos primeiros dias de janeiro de 2009.

A decisão do Billabong Ladies Pro – Costão do Santinho foi a última a entrar no mar, com Silvana Lima já largando na frente com uma nota 7,0 na primeira onda. Apostando nas direitas que abriam paredes mais longas para manobras, Silvana foi aumentando o placar a cada onda.

Recebeu nota 7,5 na segunda, com essas duas notas sendo trocadas por uma 8,00 e uma 8,75 das duas últimas apresentações da campeã sul-americana profissional de 2008. Tita Tavares não achou as ondas, praticamente boiou a bateria inteira e só surfou uma regular nota 5,5.

“Eu estava vendo essas direitas desde o começo do campeonato e elas vieram na bateria. Fico feliz porque consegui mostrar um bom surfe. Pena que não veio onda boa para nós duas, pois a Tita quase não pegou nada. É a primeira vez que a gente compete junto numa final, foi show poder mostrar a força do Ceará no cenário feminino”, falou Silvana Lima, que foi questionada sobre a briga com a Tita no Rio de Janeiro.

“Graças a Deus isso foi superado e só tenho que pedir desculpas a todos mais uma vez pela minha atitude impensada na Barra da Tijuca”.

Apesar de não ter conseguido mostrar nada do seu surfe de tetracampeã brasileira, a baixinha Tita Tavares gostou do resultado e também falou sobre a volta da amizade com Silvana Lima. “O mar ficou difícil bem na final, quase não veio onda e a Silvana pegou todas as boas que entraram na bateria,

merecendo a vitória. Mas estou feliz por ter feito a final e também por ter conversado com ela, dizendo que conheço ela desde pequenininha e jamais vou desejar mal a ela, muito pelo contrário, torço muito pelo sucesso dela para que ela seja campeã mundial do WCT um dia, tem potencial para isso e mostrou mais uma vez aqui né”, falou Tita Tavares.

Antes da final do Billabong Ladies Pro – Costão do Santinho, Tita ganhou um verdadeiro clássico do surfe feminino nacional contra a catarinense Jacqueline Silva, as duas pioneiras do Brasil na elite mundial do WCT. Já Silvana Lima tirou a última estrangeira do campeonato na outra semifinal, a linda surfista da Nova Zelândia, Paige Hareb, que manteve o quinto lugar no ranking do WQS, enquanto Silvana Lima subiu da 22.a para a décima posição na classificação geral das doze etapas completadas em Santa Catarina. A próxima é semana que vem no Rio de Janeiro, mas tanto Silvana como Jacqueline, viajam para o WCT da Austrália no domingo.

A catarinense queria o título, porém o sonho de uma vitória no Brasil fica para a próxima. “Adiado né, uma condição do mar como essa de hoje fica difícil também, quase não deu onda na bateria, a Tita domina bem essas ondas pequenas e levou a melhor. Claro que eu queria ir para a final aqui, em casa, mas o terceiro lugar também é um bom resultado.

Agora é esperar o próximo que para mim será no Havaí, pois amanhã (domingo) já estou viajando para o WCT na Austrália e não vou poder correr a etapa do Arpoador (Rio de Janeiro, semana que vem)”, disse Jacqueline Silva, que também comentou sobre o clássico com Tita Tavares.

“Fazia tempo que a gente não competia junto, ela não está mais correndo o Mundial, só corre o Brasileiro que eu também não posso correr por ser do WCT, então foi legal, ainda mais assim numa bateria mulher-a-mulher, só faltou onda para a disputa ficar mais bonita.

A Tita está aí acumulando títulos no Brasil, é uma atleta de ponta que dispensa comentários e espero que ela possa voltar a correr o circuito mundial, que arrume um patrocínio bom para isso, porque certamente ela tem potencial para se juntar a mim, a Silvana (Lima) e a Bruna (Schmitz), que está entrando pelo WQS, no WCT de novo”, deseja Jacqueline Silva, que dividiu a terceira posição no pódio com a neozelandesa Paige Hareb.
