Anna Macken is New Owner of Paradise Surf Shop

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 October, 2008 : - - There're lots of new changes happening in Paradise! Paradise Surf Shop, the icon of women's surfing in Santa Cruz, has a new owner, Anna Macken. "This is an amazing an opportunity for me to continue on in the role of supporting women surfers, while at the same time applying my business background - without having to wear a suit, well a wetsuit is okay - to something I am passionate about.

Sally has been a wonderful mentor and friend through the transition," says Anna. After 11 years at the helm, Sally Smith has turned the operations over to Anna. "I couldn't believe it when Anna called about buying Paradise - she was the perfect person to pass the business on to," said Smith. "After 11 years, I couldn't be happier about passing on Paradise to someone dedicated to carrying on the legacy of Paradise Surf Shop."

Come celebrate with Anna and Sally on Saturday, October 18, 2008, with a Re-Grand Opening Party at Paradise. The day will begin at 7 a.m. with a "Ride My Board Day" with pro longboarder and former Paradise employee Julie Cox. Julie will be offering a day of trying out her new surfboards in her Jule Collection.

    - -

Julie has worked with noted shaper Jed Noll to develop a line of surfboards for women called the Jule Collection. The boards range in length from 5'10" fish to a 9'4" classic log - all with jewel themes, of course! "My favorite is the Diamond, it's a beautiful, classic single fin." says Anna. "I love the Emerald, a versatile 9'2" beauty - I can't wait to try one out at 38th Avenue!" says Sally.

Then it's back to Paradise for refreshments and live music plus lots of in store specials and free giveaways! Be sure to check out our limited edition grand re-opening t-shirts from designer Catherine Bullimore. From 1 to 7pm there will be live performances by Ashley Lloyd, The Dirty (members of The Dashing Suns, and The Dream Date.

To top it all off, Julie Cox will present a mixed media surf travel inspired art show that is sure to pique your desire to visit foreign surf breaks in warm tropical places. Don't miss this fun filled day in Paradise - beginning at 7 a.m. - Anna will have the coffee on early - so stop by and fill up your mug before heading down to 38th Avenue. For more information please call the shop at 831-462-3880. Paradise is located at 3961 Portola Drive, at the corner of 40th and Portola just off 41st Avenue.
