Portugal ready to host the 5th event of the European Longboard Tour 2008

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 October, 2008 : - - Portugal is getting ready to host the 5th event of the European Longboard Tour 2008 that will take place on the 31st October, 1st and 2nd November. Forum Algarve Four Oceans 2008 will take place in the Algarve, Praia de Faro. The €5 000 Prize Money is the highest in the circuit.

The best longboarders in Europe are expected to come to Portugal not only for the Prize Money but also because it is an European Surfing Federation 4 stars event. Clube de Surf de Faro is the event promoter.

After a full success on 07's edition of Four Oceans, the Algarve will be the perfect setting for this Longboard European Tour event. This time extra surprises are axpected to happen at the beach appart from pure competition.

The fact that the Portuguese surfers will also be competing for the national rankings is another highlight of this event as it is the Portuguese 1st stage. The best European and Portuguese Longboarders will be in Praia de Faro so nothing but the best is expected. Last year, the Portuguese Miguel Ruivo was in the final side by side with Timothée Creignou, Adam Griffiths and Ben Skinner who would end up european champion. Check out Ben Skinner's words to our reporter in Praia de Faro last year just after the final:

"This year the event will be even bigger. Appart from all logistics at the beach in the competition area, a classic boards ehxibition and the final cerimony will take place in Forum Algarve which will allow to take Four Oceans to the most crowded place in Faro." - stated Manuel Mestre, the event manager.

At the beach anyone can take a free demo on Stand Up Paddling boards - SUP - a recent surfing class that is now emerging that consists on standing on the board and use a paddle to catch the waves. This activity is sponsored by Oxbow that will provide all gear needed. On Sunday an Expression Session will take place to show the public how radical one can be on a SUP.

New this year will be a Retro Boards competition. "Many people have old and classic boards at home that are rarelly or never used The idea is to bring all that gear to the beach and remember the 70's and 80's surf. This should be a unique moment for the proud owners of such boards and I'm sure that many stories will come up about those days.

That may become even more important than the Retro competition it self." - emotionally stated Manuel Mestre. There will be Original Retros and Copies competition. First prize will be a brand new Ferox retro.
