Australian Longboarding and Slam Skate Mag celebrate milestones
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 October, 2008 : - - Independent Australian publishing company, Morrison Media is celebrating two major milestones; the 10 year anniversary of Australian Longboarding and the 20 year anniversary of Slam skateboarding Magazine.
To mark the occasion, Australian Longboarding is releasing a special DVD titled Project X that comes bagged with the 10 year anniversary issue and goes on sale today. Australian Longboarding Magazine Editor Bruce Channon said ten years of publishing Australia’s leading longboarding magazine means there is a wealth of great material to call upon.
“We’ve put together a fantastic compilation DVD to celebrate our 60th issue, which takes highlights from various films and is matched to an original soundtrack, supplied by musicians Mark Campbell and Kym Campbell. It’s a fitting complement to the ten year anniversary of Australian Longboarding Magazine,” Bruce said.
Australia’s leading monthly skateboarding magazine Slam releases its 150th Issue next month, marking 20 years of publication. The special edition of Slam, to be launched at an industry function on the Gold Coast next month, will include a retrospective highlight of skateboarding over the last 20 years.
Slam editor Jake Frost said keeping the magazine focused purely on skateboarding has helped the magazine stay number one. “Generally speaking, skaters are a different breed. They’re up for anything and aren’t afraid to tell you how it is. Slam is no different and that’s why it resonates.” Jake said.
Morrison Media Board Sports Publisher Craig Sims said these milestones are significant achievements because surfing and skateboarding are notoriously fickle and constantly evolving market segments.
“By focussing on the niche and servicing it with passion and integrity, these magazines have managed to stay relevant and exciting year in and year out. But time in the market has also won us the trust of our readers who view us as the authority on the sport, lifestyle and sub culture”.
Morrison Media is an independent, progressive publishing company that is home to other titles such as Australia’s Surfing Life, Riptide, Frankie, Kiwi Surf, Freerider MX, Trailbike Australia, Snowboarder, Powderhound and Travelling in Australia Magazine.
