6-Star Estoril Coast Pro set to go at Carcavelos Portugal      > Portuguese embaixo

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 October, 2008 : - - The Estoril Coast Pro is about to start, as it is the second six star event held in Portugal. Between October the 21st and the 26th, some of the best surfers in the world will take part in the most important WQS stage prior to the Hawaiian leg.

To the European surfers this will be their last chance to play the home advantage. Tim Boal has already guaranteed the qualification, but Marlon Lipke, Joan Duru and Glenn Hall still fight for an opportunity to join the top 45 surfers in the world.

The Portuguese star Tiago Pires is still fighting in two fronts, has a member of the top 45 surfers. He is still fighting for a place on the WCT and the WQS. This championship will be one of his last chances to get a good result before going to Hawaii.

For the Portuguese fans this will be the last opportunity to watch their best surfer ever, surfing in a competition live this year. The championship will be held at Estoril. Carcavelos will receive the main site, and Guincho will be the back up site.

Phillip Macdonald will be returning to Portugal, where he just won the six star stage last August. After that result he has a strong chance to get to the main tour again. After a one year hiatus, he has still some bad results to throw away, is aiming for another good result in Portugal.

One of the wildcards for this event will be Frederico Morais, one of Ericeira Surf Shop’s team riders, sponsor of this event; which will give this surfer the opportunity to start the event in the later stages. This will be a good experience for one of the best Portuguese young surfers, to do battle in an important championship in his local beach.

For António Pedro and Alfarroba Ideias e Eventos, this championship represents an enormous effort, only possible with the unconditional support of all the sponsors. This event can be, in the future, the reference for all surfing competitions in Portugal, because it’s held near the country’s biggest urban area and capital, Lisbon, witch gives tremendous visibility to the championship:

“This event is important for many reasons, the first is the opportunity given to national surfers to, more than once a year, see and compete against some of the best surfers in the world; they will be surfing at home, which is an advantage; it will also be an event held near a big urban area, which is new, mainly compared with the other six star we do in Portugal, in this championship we will get literally into peoples lives.”

For these reasons, all attention will be focused on Estoril, where the ESTORIL COAST PRO, is expected to present excellent performances, in this key score event for some of the world’s best surfers, aiming to achieve their goals.

The ESTORIL COAST PRO is strongly sponsored by Turismo de Portugal/Estoril, along with Câmara Municipal de Cascais (Cascais City Hall), and Ericeira Surf Shop. Sponsors like Nokia, B!, Tmn and Jeep also provide huge support.

This competition is organized by Alfarroba, with help from Sapo.pt, Pólen Surfboards, Fonte Viva, LG Computers, Konica Minolta, Red Bull, Vitaminas, Hotel Praia Mar and ASP Europe – Association of Surfing Professionals.

To help on the event’s diffusion, organization counts with extra help from radio MegaFm, newspaper Destak, tv channel Sport Tv, tv programme Zona Radical, websites Surf.Sapo.Pt, Conquilha.com and magazines FreeSurf and Bit.

Linha do Estoril Acolhe a Última Etapa Europeia do WQS

Sapo.Pt, Conquilha.com e revistas FreeSurf e Bit.
