PacSun USA Surf Team junior Nat Young wins O'Neill Coldwater
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 30 October, 2008 : - - Surfing America's PacSun USA Surf Team Program continues to pump out results - The System is Working. Nat Young did one better than his 2007 Pro Junior victory at his homebreak Steamer Lane. He won the 2008 four-star WQS O'Neill Cold Water Classic. After failing to defend his Pro Junior title this year, Young went on a rampage to mow down the field of seasoned pros en route to the podium. The 17-year-old goofyfoot just returned to Santa Cruz after competing on the PacSun USA Surf Team at the 2008 ISA World Surfing Games in Portugal. Young's efforts there helped America earn a silver medal behind Australia. While in Portugal, Young got to glean some competitive savvy from 2001 ASP World Champion and eventual gold medalist C.J. Hobgood as well as ASP World Tour surfer Ben Bourgeios. "Being around C.J. and watching the best guys in the world compete in Portugal really helped me coming home to the Cold Water Classic," said Young after his victory. "Coach Joey Buran and all the training we do for the USA Surf Team has really improved my competitive approach to surfing heats. I'm stoked to win." 2009 will be Young's final year on the PacSun USA Surf Team junior squad. His focus is set to do some serious damage the Quiksilver ISA World Juniors this March in Ecuador.
