Al Hunt on final push as WQS desends upon North Shore
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 November, 2008 : - - Coolangatta -- Well folks, we are down to the nitty gritty. The final leg of the season and our guys and girls who have been campaigning so hard all year have only a sparse few more opportunities to turn their dreams into a reality in 2009.
For the girls, this week marks the start of the ASP WQS 6-Star Reef Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa and the last opportunity for those on the bubble to make a push for next season. On the men’s side of things, Haleiwa will host an ASP WQS 6-Star PRIME before following up with another ASP WQS 6-Star PRIME at the O’Neill World Cup at Sunset Beach.
Hawaii is notoriously harsh on qualifying campaigners, but there are enough points up for grabs that we may see some fireworks. Get ready for the show…
Big Pancho Sullivan claimed his third Xcel Pro at Sunset Beach this past weekend, but the victory did little to assure the Hawaiian safe passage back to the Dream Tour in 2009. Since we had no ASP WQS events of consequence this past week, nothing has changed so the situation remains similar to last week’s ASP WQS Situation Room. Until next week.
