Cracking Field set for Rip Curl GromSearch presented by SNICKERS at Middleton Beach in South Australia

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 November, 2008 : - - Casuarina Beach NSW -- One of the best fields ever will head to South Australia’s Middleton Beach for the fifth event of the seven event Australian Rip Curl GromSearch Series on Saturday and Sunday November 22/23.

Headed by the tear away rating leaders in both the 16 Boys and Girls divisions in Queensland Thomas Woods and Victoria’s Nikki Van Dijk (Phillip Island), the field is stacked with elite grommets (16 and under surfers) from Qld, NSW, Vic, Tas and WA all descending on South Australia to take on the best of the locals who will no doubt relish the opportunity to mix it with the best in their own surf breaks.

Fourteen Year old Victorian Nikki Van Dijk has flourished on this years series and her big lead on the 16 ratings has surprised even herself. “I set an aim at the start of the series to try and win just one event on the series and qualify for the national final but all of a sudden I have two wins and I’m leading the ratings and the temptation to now try and win the ratings for the year is too much” said Van Dijk.

“It’s also really good fun traveling to all these great surf breaks and the events are enjoyable so I’ll keep competing!”

With the likes of Jack Freestone (Gold Coast), Hamish Renwick (Tas), Ellie Jean Coffey (Crescent Head), Jake Fawcett (WA) and many other great surfers in the field, Van Dijk and Woods are in for a big challenge to maintain their standings and  this will be a huge showdown of Australia’s most exciting young surfers.

Surfing Australia Events Manager Dane Jordan commented on the outstanding field by saying “With a host of competitors looking to fine-tune their surfing leading into the Australian Junior Surfing Titles, the field of surfers assembling for the Rip Curl GromSearch - South Australia is without doubt the strongest group of 16 & Under aged surfers ever to set foot in the Festival State.

In a first for South Australia competitors from every State in Australia have entered, with many of them already having international experience and national victories on their resumes, which guarantees a world class show.”

Daily releases along with outstanding images will be distributed from this event. For more information including full result spreadsheets be sure to log onto ripcurl.com and surfingaustralia.com.

The Rip Curl GromSearch series is proudly presented by SNICKERS in association with Waves Magazine, Fuel TV, Surfing Australia and Surfing NSW.
