Corey Ziems talks about Hawaiian arrival, season excitement

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 17 November, 2008 : - - Well I arrived on Oahu after a 9 hour flight from Brisbane, picked up my hire car and headed up to the north shore. Along the way I called into Glenn Pang to pick up 5 boards I ordered off him for this year in Hawaii, then it was on to my place. I also picked up all my previous years guns from my friends place here on the north shore.

In total this year I have 14 boards so im that excited to just get out there and use them all.

The first couple of days here we had some super fun waves. It was a nice 5 to 6 foot north west swell and backdoor and oof the wall had some crazy little barrels.. Just perfect size to warm up on. Also the crowds where quite good for the first few days I guess not everyone has arrived here yet.

Mushy and Robbo arrived a couple of days after me and are staying at turtle bay about 5 to 10 mins away. Im stoked there staying there because it means we can use there sick tennis courts and golf coarse and pools and stuff. Im staying at the lizzard house which is situated just behind teds bakery or backyards.

The first few days the boys arrived it has been small and we just been mucking around on our big boards at kamies getting in some practise at trying to turn them, its that fun I love it. But the last couple of days the swell has jacked and the contest at haliewa is under way and pumping.

We woke Thursday morning to a heap of swell, pipe was big with a couple on second reef and sunset had some big deep ones. It seemed like the swell was super west cause it wasn’t quite hitting the bowl at sunset even though it was 8 to 10 foot and backdoor was a straight close out in the morning. Even so there was some sick fun waves to be had with cruisy crowds to.

I had my heat on Friday and lost, waves at haliewa were pumping, I tried to get a a couple of barrels in my heat but kept falling until the end I finally made one but it was to late and shit.. Its pretty cloudy now and im feeling pretty shit from losing so I think I might get my training out the way and then crack a corona to help ease the pain…..
