    WSA/Hobie Championship Tour Event #4

    Western Surfing Association
    Pismo Beach Pier, California
    9 November 2008

WSA/Hobie Championship Tour Event 4 scores in Pismo

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 19 November, 2008 : - - Mother Nature took us to the extremes at the Western Surfing Association/Hobie Championship Tour at the Pismo Beach Pier, November 9.  Many of the WSA surfers traveled up to Pismo on Saturday and were greeted with glassy, calm, summer like conditions.

On event day Sunday, they woke to windy cold conditions with a large consistent NW windswell marching down the beach.  Being the good sports they are, the competitors made the best of the tough conditions, finding the occasional corners or reforms to get them through their heats.  Despite the tough conditions this was our biggest turnout at Pismo ever, with over 250 entries crammed into 10 hours of double areas.

Everyone gets a “star” for braving the conditions but special recognition goes to the Micro Groms 9 and under division and their push-in partners for enduring some pretty gnarly conditions.  Also, a big thank you and congratulations goes out to Blake Davis who came to the rescue of a girl competitor who got swept into the pier and got her leash wrapped around a piling.  He then went on to win the Boys U16 division!

Coming up next is Event #5 at Oceanside Harbor South Jetty on December 7.  There are still enough events to start at Oceanside and meet the 5 contest minimum to be invited to our West Coast Championships and possibly earn a coveted slot in the Surfing America USA Championships next summer.
