Summer Issue Of African Surfrider On Sale Now!
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 December, 2008 : - - It's that time of year again, and summer evokes many different feelings from different people. For some it might be sunburn and onshore, for others it might be fun bowls and warm water. For our summer issue, the crew at ASR went out and interviewed a small cross - section of our surfing populaton to see what summer means to them. The results are funny and thought-provoking.
Gavin Rudolph has a long and illustrious past, and we delve into the history of this Cape Town legend and get a glimpse of his life story. From charging and winning events in Hawaii, to surfing the big wave spots of Cape Town, and more recently going surfing at his favourite West Coast haunts with his surfing family. Miles Masterson gives us all the Gavin Rudolph gear, and it's a great read.
Orange County falls under the spotlight as the Surf City of The States. Moonwalker scratches the underbelly, checks the waves out, and has a look at some of the prodigious talent which has been spawned from the OC.
Donny Frankenreiter has got a new album out, and we got hold of the heavily-moustached raconteur to run some music questions by him, compliment him on his new album, and find out what it's really like to be able to surf, jam and run free whilst still getting paid by a clothing label to do so. Apparently it's pretty cool, but Donny tells more. Check it out.
Our featured rider this issue is young Mikey February from the wave-rich Kommetjie region. At the age of 15, Mikey won the Quiksilver King Of The Groms series this year and went on to compete in the International King Of The Groms event in France. Mikey tells us of his intro to the sport, his family back-up, his goals and his dreams. The laaitie rips!
Despite our dipping economy and the general lack of cash around these days, African Surfrider continues to grow with every issue that hits the shelves. The photo feature is mind blowing as well, with some of the world's best photographers contributing some of their finest work for this seminal issue.
