Finisterre at the foot of Mt. Everest
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 December, 2008 : - - St Agnes, North Cornwall -- Unfailingly positive, stout at altitude and seemingly resistant to cold, this is how the legendary Sherpas are often described. They have been an integral part of Everest climbing expeditions from the very beginning.
Indeed, fewer successful attempts could have been achieved without them. It was Sherpa Tenzig Norgay who first reached the summit with Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953, and Tenzig who planted the flag in the famous photo of Triumph.
Fifty-five years later, Finisterre decided to support a team of three at The Independent Collective, with their mission to document the first skydive over Everest. Chris Proctor and his crew wore Finisterre product and in the end, in good gesture, handed them over to four Sherpas.
“It’s quite an amazing feeling to think that an Etobicoke is now at the foot of Mt Everest, said Finisterre Founder, Tom Kay.”
Finisterre is a small company located on the cliffs of Northern Cornwall, with only a handful of employees, they produce a limited edition range every year, using environmentally friendly and exclusive fabrics. They are winners of the Observer Ethical Award, The Surfers Path, Green Wave Award, the ISPO Brand New Award and Eco-Design Award.
