Great Waves And Weather For Day Two Of Roxy Wahine Cup
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 6 December, 2008 : - - Suncoast Beach, Durban – High scores were the order of the day on the second day of the Roxy Wahine Cup, as great surf allowed the girls to perform some radical turns and impress the judges. Three-foot and running waves, lefts and rights, poured though consistently throughout the day, and the top female surfers in the country went to town in front of a packed Suncoast Beach.
Cape Town surfer Tarryn Chudleigh was one of the stand-outs of the day in the premier Open Division, scoring one of the highest wave scores with an 8.5 out of ten for a long running left-hander on which she executed a number of radical turns for her score.
Other Open Division surfers performing well today were Nikita Robb from East London, former event winner Heather Clark from Port Shepstone, and Alice McGregor from East London, with all four of these surfers winning their heats.
The U20 Division also saw some red-hot surfing take place, with the afore-mentioned Tarryn Chudleigh continuing her form in this division. Durban surfer Kirsty Delport, recently back from a season in Hawaii, was also scoring some good points along her way to heat victory, as was Chantelle Rautenbach from Melkbos and Heidi Palmboom from The Bluff. All of these girls won their respective heats.
Alongside the action going in the water was the Roxy Learn To Surf Program, with loads of people having a go at learning to surf amongst the fun waves. Tomorrow is the final day of the event, and another fine day with good surf has been predicted.
The Roxy Wahine Cup is a Surfing South Africa (SSA) event and forms part of the Pro Surf Tour. SSA is the governing body for the sport in South Africa.
