Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 7 December, 2008 : - - Hawai’i/San Diego local surf artist Elise Nicole Kirkpatrick shares her passion of surfing, diving, and anything ocean through her vibrant works of art. Her passion for the salt water has driven her travel to exotic, and not so exotic locals all throughout the planet with her board and canvas in tote.
Her signature on most every piece is the long, flowing, exhagerated hair on the surf girls. You can find places like Sunset or Ali’i Beach on Oahu, San Onofre in California, kelp forests off the west coast, or the black sand beaches of Maui in her work. While on a surf trip to Costa Rica this past summer, Elise created ‘Pavones’ shown below, also most recently featured in Longboard Magazine’s art Issue.
“The dark color of the sand, stalking vulture, and huge driftwood suggests you are perched directly in front of the cantina, just waiting for that swell to welcome a leg burning left, and I wanted to put that tican energy in to a piece that surfers could relate to”-- Elise. From surf destinations like Hawaii, Alaska, Florida, Texas, California, Mexico, Costa Rica, Samoa, and in between she draws inspiration from her travels for her artwork.
Currently she’s also working on writing a travelog from the eyes of a woman surfer, and is anticipating a June 2009 publish. Elise's work can be found at Deep Ecology Gallery of the North Shore, Oahu, surf shops around the country as well as in Longboard Magazine, FOAM magazine, and FreeSurf magazine.
Her studio has recently moved from beautiful Honolulu to sunny San Diego and she is available for commissions or special projects. You can also check out her work on the web at OceanGirlArt.com or email elise@oceangirlart.com for current pieces.
