Surfer dies on NSW central coast

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 28 December, 2008 : - - A surfer has died after hitting his head while surfing at The Entrance, north of Gosford, on the New South Wales central coast. The man, aged in his 40s, was on his surfboard before he fell into the water. Director of lifesaving on the central coast, Stuart Harvey, says the man probably hit his head on a sandbar or rocks, causing damage to his spine.

The ambulance service says lifeguards and paramedics worked to revive the man before he was taken to a nearby park, where a doctor on board an ambulance helicopter also attempted resuscitation.

More details will be published as they become available
