Hookipa Surf Classic

Annual Hookipa Surf Classic is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 1 January, 2009 : - - Kuau - The 19th annual Hookipa Surf Classic is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, with alternate dates of Jan. 10-11. The event is a memorial to Justin Roberson, who died at age 19 in 1989 from a vehicle-related accident while in California for World Qualifying Series events.

The event will have seven divisions, including a pro-am division with a $1,000 prize. The fee for the pro-am and 200-pound-plus divisions is $40. The fee for the junior men's (14-17) and open women's divisions is $20. The grom boys (11-13), grom girls (11-13) and open keiki (10 and under) fee is $15. Registration may be completed at surfrider.org or at the beach.

Entry forms are available at Hana Hwy. Surf in Paia. Grom and keiki entry fees will be waved in exchange for participation in native planting and beach cleanup projects. More informa
