Renowned San Diego surf shop to distribute Ice-9 blanks
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 6 January, 2009 : - - Solana Beach -- Serving surfing since 1967, Mitch’s Surf Shop continues to uphold its reputation in the wave-riding community. The friendly folks at Mitch’s recognize that times have changed, and more than 40 years later, it’s still crucial to keep with the times.
That’s why one of the most recognized names in the surf industry has chosen to stock their Solana Beach retail store with blanks from innovative foam company, Ice-Nine Foam Works. For shapers and surf aficionados looking for anything and everything related to the craft, Mitch’s provides Ice-Nine’s TDI “Mowses” blanks in addition to a full range of hard and soft goods.
“Ice-Nine produces a good product that is easy to shape, and the finished boards are lively and really fun to ride, while still maintaining strong decks,” says Mitchs’ buyer, Jon North. “We also respect their continued support for local shapers and their superior customer service—they’re just totally on it,” he adds.
“Mitch’s has been an established and critical part of the San Diego surf industry for over 50 years,” says Ice-Nine president Jon Stillman. “It is quite an honor to be included in their line-up.
We’re pleased that our Mowses formula has met Mitchs’ high quality standard, and we look forward to working hard to serve their customers,” he adds.
Mitch’s is now carrying Ice-Nine’s Mowses formula in a full range of shapes with their standard basswood stringers. Redwood, cedar, plywood, balsa, custom rockers, T-bands, high density foam T-bands, multiple stringers, colored glue, etc. is available upon request with quick turnaround.
The catalog includes a comprehensive line of innovative shapes, from high-performance shortboards to longboards and guns, and just recently, the addition of the Walker longboard molds.
Mowses is the new TDI formula that was created while collaborating with foam icon, Harold Walker.
The resulting foam is not only ultralight and white but is also extremely easy to plane and sand. Its tight cells translate to greater liveliness, superior dent resistance and longer life in the water than other TDI foams.
As Mitch’s continually strives to give their customers the best the industry has to offer at the best price possible, adding Ice-Nine’s blanks to the product line seemed like a natural choice. “We not only carry everything to make your own board, but we also have finished boards and anything else that you need to get in the water,” says North.
With two retail shops in the San Diego area, SoCal surfers should have no problem getting their hands on finished boards by top labels, as well as everything else from shaping tools to wetsuits to sunglasses.
