Michel Bourez first Dream Tour surfer covered by Nike 6.0

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 19 February, 2009 : - - Toahutu -- French Polynesian surfer Michel Bourez (PYF), 23, is one of three rookies from Europe to join the ASP World Tour in 2009 and is expected to cause some serious damage when he finds his cruising speed amongst surfing's elite.

Bourez, who is the first Dream Tour surfer ever to be sponsored by Nike 6.0 from head to toes, has been busy surfing at home and will join the rest of the European crew in Coolangatta at the end of the week to start ripping the Superbank. Words from the man himself who is more than welcome (=maeva) amongst the world's best surfers to surf the world's best waves...

"The last couple of months have delivered great surf in general with some epic sessions at Teahupoo recently where we had some great fun. We have been blessed with waves in Tahiti and I spent lots of time with my friends surfing every day and relaxing at home. The truth is I haven't been training too much even if i tried but I was really busy with media stuff for my new sponsors and I felt more like a business man than a pro surfer lately...

Right now, the start is coming soon, faster than I thought actually, and I am not feeling so good to tell you the truth. I have a small injury, more a pain than a real injury, so I am at home still hoping things will get back to normal fast. I am just chilling and relaxing at the moment, and I will be on a jumbo jet this Thursday off to the Gold Coast. I really want to get the good feeling back and I am confident for this first event as a member of the ASP World Tour. I will see how things go when it gets underway.

I cannot wait to get into it. First thing is my quiver, everyhting should be ready today so I am pretty excited to get all these boards and start surfing them and paddle out with my firends on tour like Tim (Boal), Hugo (Savalli), Alain (Riou), Hira (Teriinatoofa) and all the guys that are going to be on the Gold Coast. Can't wait to be there!

Seven Europeans hitting the Dream Tour in 2009... It's almost unbelievable, but it is really great for the sport and for us all. If things keep going like this, who knows how many Euros will be on tour in a couple of years? Hahaha... Seriously, I think there are some guys knocking on the door pretty hard and the potential is obvious.

We'll see, but I think Alain (Riou) or Hira (Teriinatoofa), Hugo (Savalli) as well, might be on the next shuttle to the Dream Tour, not mentionning all the younger guys on the WQS. I really hope Romain Laulhé (FRA) will manage to get a new sponsor as well because he rips and has amazing potential to do well if he gets 100% support from a sponsor.

What else can I say? Well, I know the ASP World Tour is going to be very special and that every heat might require 200% of comitment to hope for any result. Then it will be about dealing with the pressure, the heat, the opponent, and it is going to be a lot different than on the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS). I know I will have to be smart and very careful with all the guys on tour because any mistake can cost a lot. I just hope everything goes the right way so I can start living my dream for real!"
