Marti Paradisis Makes History at the Big Wave Awards

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 23 February, 2009 : - - Marti Paradisis picked up two top awards in the prestigious Surfing Life big wave awards held in Sydney on Thursday Night. Marti won the awards for the biggest paddle in ride and the award for best overall performance. This makes him the first surfer in the history of the national competition to win two awards in one year. Last year, Marti won the best overall performance award.

He has been chasing monster waves within Australia over the past 8 months and continues to challenge himself at his local break Shipstern Bluff but he also tackled the newly discovered wave at Eddydtone Rock, near Pedra Branca, off Tasmania’s southeast. He said the first surf at Eddystone Rock was a “pretty extraordinary sort of session”.

“It’s my passion” he said of surfing. “I take it pretty seriously and have a ball doing it.” The 2 awards which were presented at the ceremony netted him $6,000 in prize money.
