Second Consecutive Lay Day for European Contingent at Snapper Rocks

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 1 March, 2009 : - - Snapper Rocks -- Europeans enjoyed a second lay day today after event officials decided to get the Roxy Pro Gold Coast underway at Duranbah Beach. With average surf on offer at most locations of the Coolangatta area, 2009 ASP Top 45 rookie Tim Boal (Anglet, FRA) visited Brisbane on Monday and joined the rest of the crew including other rookies Michel Bourez (Tahiti, PYF) and Marlon Lipke (Algarve, DEU), for a TV show on Eurosport 2, a major European sports channel.

Miky Picon (Capbreton, FRA), Aritz Aranburu (Zarautz, EUK), Bourez and Lipke, who were not able to avoid the sudden-death Round 2 of the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast after placing third in their respective heats on Day 1, took a couple of day-offs relaxing before their upcoming match-ups.

Jeremy Flores (New Caledonia/Capbreton, FRA), 20, enjoyed a deserved rest after he advanced through to Round 3 despite a painful ankle that has been hurting since last year’s ASP World Tour stop in Bali. Flores, who said not having any plans for the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, will have to wait after Round 2 wraps up to know his next opponent.

Some of the Europeans including longtime ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) competitor Patrick Beven (Biarritz, FRA) and reigning ASP European Junior Champion Maxime Huscenot (REU) as well as veteran Fred Robin (REU), attended the premiere of Andy Irons (Kauai, HAW) and Kelly Slater’s (Florida, USA) much expected movie “A fly in the champagne” at Coolangatta with the presence of nine-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater himself to present the show.

Aranburu, Lipke, Picon and Bourez are looking forward to their Round 2 encounters coming-up when the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast pres. by LG Mobile resumes. The forecast shows average surf tomorrow but officials will reconvene at 6 AM tomorrow Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009.

UPCOMING EUROPEANS’ ROUND 2 MATCH-UPS
Heat 3: CJ Hobgood (USA) Vs Aritz Aranburu (EUK)
Heat 4: Adrian Buchan (AUS) Vs Marlon Lipke (DEU)
Heat 11: Dayyan Neve (AUS) Vs Michel Bourez (PYF)
Heat 12: Michael Picon (FRA) Vs Chris Davidson (AUS)
