Flores through to Round 4, Boal to surf Round 3 battle     > Francaise ci-dessous

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 March, 2009 : - - Snapper Rocks -- Jeremy Flores (FRA), 20, defeated ASP World Tour rookie Nic Muscroft (AUS) today in clean three-foot (one meter) waves at Snapper Rocks, the young Frenchman making the best out of the tricky incoming tide conditions to secure a Round 4 berth in the Quiksilver Pro Gold Goast pres. by LG.

Flores, who was the second European to paddle out on Day 3 of competition after Portugal's Tiago Pires (PRT) was ousted by Joel Parkinson (AUS), came up with good surfing to get rid of Muscroft and will now face former ASP World Champion and double-event winner Mick Fanning (AUS).

"There were some really good waves all day and it kind of stopped for our heat and went flat," Flores said. "Nic (Muscroft) and I were just struggling to find a good one and I was really stressing out because even if you are surfing well, if you don't get the better wave you are not going to make it."

Flores, who placed equal 3rd in the Quiksilver Pro last year, will be facing one of the crowd's favorites when competition resumes, still being confident about his chances to create the upset.

"I am going heat by heat right now," Flores said. "I am going to face Mick (Fanning) in next round so it might be the hardest heat but I have already defeated him and I know it is possible. I'll have to get the good waves and stay focused and relaxed. If I surf at my best, I have a chance to beat him."

With rumours going around about the event relocating to the world famous pointbreak of Kirra in the next couple of days, Flores will be looking forward to surfing the barreling righthanders half-a-mile from Snapper Rocks if the conditions allow it.  "It would be a dream coming true for me, since I am a kid I have been watching guys surfing and competing at Kirra and it looks unreal so I hope it goes there."

Tiago Pires, the Portuguese representative of the ASP Top 45, suffered the assaults of ASP World Tour No. 4 Joel Parkinson (AUS) in Round 3 today, Pires managing to net a good 14.50 point heat tally (out of a possible 20), bot enough to counter Parkinson's high score of 18.50 points.

With the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast holding off the second half of Round 3 for tomorrow, the last French and European surfer in the event Tim Boal (FRAà), 25, did not surf today and will have to wait until the event resumes to surf Heat 15 against Adrian "Ace" Buchan (AUS).

ROUND 3 EUROPEAN RESULTS
