Boal's run ends in Round 3, Flores last Euro in Quik Pro
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 9 March, 2009 : - - Snapper Rocks -- Tim Boal (Anglet, FRA), 25, was eliminated from the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast pres. by LG Mobile today at Snapper Rocks in three foot (one meter) waves.
Boal, who was the last French and European representative to surf in Round 3 after Jeremy Flores (FRA) advanced through to Round 4 yesterday, was ousted by last year's ASP World Tour No. 6 Adrian Buchan in a close exchange where both surfers lacked waves.
Boal, who had opened the 30-minute decider with a solid 7.17 point ride out of a possible 10, was not able to find any back-up score while Buchan's opening 8.00 point wave gave him the lead for the whole battle, the Australian neither finding any second good scoring ride.
Boal, who is a rookie on this year's ASP World Tour, had impressed earlier in the week with an easy win in Round 1 over experienced competitors Freddie Patacchia (HAW) and Mick Campbell (AUS) but was stopped today in the opening event of the year.
"I couldn't find any second good wave and the few better ones I got I did not surf them well," Boal said. "I wasn't feeling too much in form and I feel like this heat was in my reach but Adrian (Buchan) got this really good score right at the end and secured the win."
Boal, who will now fly out to French Polynesia with Dream Tour member and fellow rookie Michel Bourez (Tahiti, PYF), ends his run with an equal 17th place avoiding a last place finish to start the year with.
Jeremy Flores (FRA), 20, Europe's undisputed leader and former semifinalist in the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, is the last remaining surfer flyting the French flag and he will face former ASP World Champion and event winner Mick Fanning (Coolangatta, AUS) when competition resumes.
With the swell having significantly increased this afternoon, there's a possibility the Quiksilver Pro Gold Goast crowns its champion tomorrow if conditions allow some quality surf. The renowned wave of Kirra has been mentionned for a possible finish there but at this time, it is not breaking yet. Wave forecast shows that the new swell is building and tomorrow could witness some five to six foot (1.5 to 2 meter) waves rolling along the Superbank.
