Julian Wilson Dominates Day 1 at GSI Noosa Festival of Surfing
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 March, 2009 : - - Noosa Heads -- Fresh of his giant-killing run at the Gold Coast ASP World Tour event where Julian Wilson defeated Kelly Slater, the dynamic Sunshine Coast surfer enjoyed the ambience and fun peeling waves at Noosa’s first point today to take two major wins on the opening day of the GSI Noosa Surfing Festival.
Julian paired with his father Mick, one of the original surfers at Noosa, to take a big win in the Honolua Surf Co. / Le Monde Spirit of Family Challenge which saw an esteemed lineup of famous family pairs surf for the title - just some of the names included Rusty and Taylor Miller and Sam and Luke Egan
But the Wilson pair dominated the day with Julian posting multiple 8 and 9 point rides while father Mick more than held his own with some long peeling 4 and 5 point rides. They defeated Dane and Dave Wilson (NSW) in an entertaining final.

Later in the day Wilson paired off with Jamie Willems and the Sunshine Coast pair won the World Champs Charity Challenge which donated over $7000 to the three charities being Surfaid International, Frangipani Dreams and the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire appeal.
Wilson is a former Australian Champion Longboarder who has no problems jumping from shortboard to longboards – “We get plenty of perfect Longboard waves up here and my brothers and dad obviously love longboarding and I’m ok with it as well!” said Julian Wilson as he stood proudly with Dad Mick after their win.
Tomorrow’s action at Noosa will see ASP Pro Longboarding Men’s and Women’s in action and with favourable swell and winds forecast, conditions for the world’s top longboarders should be ideal.
