The Hyundai Malfunction has gone Retro
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 March, 2009 : - - Retro surfboards, that is the twin-fins and single fins, from the pre 1981 Simon Anderson era in surfing's history will open the surfing component in this year’s Hyundai Malfunction.
Surfed with a exhibitionists aplomb, it feels as though retro surfing enthusiasts have travelled back in surfing history exhumed the surfboard relics from a bygone era and applied them to the modern surfing culture. The return to decades-old surfboards has recreated the way that we think about surfboards today, altering the landscape of many line-ups.
Wednesday 25th has been set aside to allow for surfers to compete on boards constructed prior to 1981 and will feature 2 divisions of surfing, pre 1981 and pre 1968, 9ft old mals. These divisions also allow amateur and professional competitors the opportunity to compete against each other in a fun environment.
A selection of boards will be supplied for competitors to choose from or competitors can surf their own boards.
