Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 19 March, 2009 : - - ASP Longboard Qualifying Series (LQS) Golden Breed Men’s Open Pro and Banana Boat Women’s Pro finalists waiting for the best of the waves. Prospects are looking good for another great finish to the ASP LQS Golden Breed Men’s Pro and Banana Boat Women’s Pro with an easterly pulse in the swell expected to move onto the Noosa Points over the coming two days.
With just the four finalists in each division patiently waiting for their finals to run, all are excited at the prospect of finishing in the best possible conditions.
Defending Golden Breed Pro champion Josh Constable has no problems waiting with Noosa as his home base and the former ASP World Longboard Champion (2006) commented on the upcoming finals today saying, “I happy sitting and waiting for the good waves to come and I’m fairly sure it’s going to happen – we’re starting to see better waves today and a slightly bigger swell in the next few days should see some really good waves and that’s exactly what I want to surf my final in.... it’s been a great move to wait “
“While I don’t expect it to be as big as last year, I think it will be really good because the sand formation out there after last week’s cyclone swell has lined up the bank superbly --- bring it on, I’m ready to surf!”
Constable and fellow local Harrison Roach are set to take on high class USA surfers Taylor Jensen and Christian Wach in a highly anticipated final and the better waves, the more amazing this final will be. Expect nothing short of a pair of outstanding 9 point plus rides to win this final.
The Banana Boat Women’s Pro is lining up to be just as exciting with Tweed Heads NSW surfer Chelsea Williams favourite to win her fourth Noosa Pro title but she’ll need to be at her best with impressive high scoring performances all week from her fellow finalists Melissa Combo (NSW), Selby Riddle (Qld) and Isabelle Braley (NSW)
In the meantime there’s absolutely no shortage of great surfing going on at First Point Noosa with a super clean small swell today creating ideal and fun small waves for the amateur divisions at the GSI Noosa Festival of Surfing.
A feature of the today’s surfing is the GSI One Design division which this year features the unique new GSI Meyerhoffer designs. These boards are a radical design with an hour glass shape outline, but clearly they are a functional. Created by Thomas Meyerhoffer (San Francisco/USA) who is here at the Noosa Festival of Surf to promote the design.
The concept of the design is based around delivering a combination of the very best features of modern longboards along with the performance characteristics of modern shortboards. With multiple excellent 8 and 9 point rides being posted throughout the early rounds of the one design heats, it’s clear that these boards definitely go!
Today’s waves at Noosa were a perfect testing ground for these boards.
Some finalists along with semi finalists of most of the amateur divisions have been decided and a full spreadsheet of results across all the divisions can be found at aspworldtour.com and follow the link to the GSI Noosa Festival of Surfing mini site.
