GSI Noosa Fest of Surf: Perfect waves again on last day

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 March, 2009 : - - Christian Wach (USA/Cal/San Clemente) was untouchable in the Golden Breed Pro Noserider division at the Global Surf Industries Noosa Festival of Surfing today.

Not even three locals pitted against Wach in the final could contend with the freakish nose riding abilities of Wach who, across his two highest scoring rides, scored 127, equivalent to just over 2 minutes on the nose while second placed Trent Dickie (Noosa) scored a very respectable 84 with Ezra Norris on 79 and Harrison Roach on 70 (both Noosa).

“That was the best heat I have ever surfed in my life” said Wach who has now won this event three years in succession. “The waves are absolutely faultless and so perfect for Noseriding it’s unbelievable.” Wach is a Noseriding specialist, probably the world’s best in a discipline that at this stage has no structured ratings.

Wach’s win made it a double for USA surfers in the Pro divisions at this year’s festival following on from Taylor Jensen’s win yesterday. All finals enjoyed the flawless waves at Noosa’s first point today and there were numerous high scoring win across the array of divisions.

The closing two events to this years festival were the Dupe Women’s Open Amateur which was won by Caloundra surfer Monique Keane (16.05) defeating fellow Sunshine Coaster Sharon Jackson (Alex Head) while the Men’s Classic Malibu Open amateur went to Caloundra’s Justin Healy who posted the days highest tally of 19 points out of a possible 20 to defeat Ben Harworth (UK) on 17.65.

Noosa delivered unbelievable surf again this year and all who participated will be back next year for one of surfing’s classic events. All final results along with photo gallery and news can be found on the official event website which can be located here.
