Calvin Harris hits The Relentless Boardmasters in association with Vans 2009
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 9 April, 2009 : - - Calvin Harris is set hype up the masses on Friday night as main support to The Streets. The Scottish indie-electro wizard will unleash his live sound upon the Relentless Boardmasters Watergate Bay site with a mix of old and new hits such as ‘ Vegas’, ‘Acceptable in the 80’s’ and his latest massive single 'I’m Not Alone.'
The track has been tipped to be the ‘song of the UK summer’ by Dominic Byrne (Chris Moyles show, BBC Radio 1) as well as receiving rave reviews from the likes of Pete Tong and Zane Lowe.
‘I’m Not Alone’, released for digital download on April 4 2009, is an anthemic, uplifting dose of electronic creativity destined to be an instant dance anthem that will set the Watergate Bay site into a frenzy. Calvin Harris has a busy summer ahead with a number of festival performances scheduled after his headline tour across April and May with many of the shows already sold out.
Not shy of the spotlight, Harris has had a whirlwind career since his conception as an artist under the name ‘Stouffer’ in 2002 before signing to EMI records in 2006 at the tender age of 22 under his current persona. His debut album ‘I Created Disco’ was released a year later and lead to Harris supporting Faithless and Groove Armada on their UK tour.
Calvin Harris continues to go from strength to strength as both an artist, record producer and renowned remixer including collaborations with such icons as Kylie Minogue, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and featuring on Dizzee Rascals track ‘Dance Wiv Me’ last summer which flew to #1 in the UK charts.
Also added is British Dub Tech pioneers Dreadzone as the latest of many incoming addition’s for Saturday night’s bill. Since forming in 1992 Dreadzone have built a historic career with 5 studio albums, 7 chart smash hit singles, an appearance on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury, supported Oasis and have performed live on Top Of The Pops.
Dreadzone have released a free download of their new single ‘For A Reason’ available from their website, it’s the first material to be released from the band’s forthcoming studio album to be released later this year. Already a firm live favourite, For A Reason’s vocal-led pop sensibilities, orchestral refrain and overwhelmingly upbeat vibe has set the tone for Dreadzone’s future which holds quite a few suprises as the band move forward and continue to shatter preconceptions.

Dreadzone have released a free download of their new single ‘For A Reason’ via www.dreadzonedownloads.com. It’s the first material to be released from the band’s forthcoming studio album, slated for release in 2009. Already a firm live favourite, For A Reason’s vocal-led pop sensibilities, orchestral refrain and overwhelmingly upbeat vibe has led it being favourably compared to their biggest hit, Little Britain.
Now in their 16th year Dreadzone have released five artist albums, one of which was cited by John Peel as one of his top ten of all time, toured their inimitable live show the world over and even found time to squeeze in a top 20 hit in the form of ‘Little Britain’.
Unfortunately the death of guitarist Steve Roberts, brother of founder member Greg, in 2006 beset the group with an unbelievable tragedy. But Dreadzone have set out to pick themselves up and do what they do best, take to the road with two new members, fresh energy and brand new material.
So now founder member Greg Dread, the original bassmaster Leo Williams, the unmistakable MC Spee and legendary reggae vocalist Earl 16 return with new input from the fresh faces and continue to hold the stage with an awesome live show, playing classic tunes both old and new to deliver a unique sound. Chris Compton is the new face on guitar, while another Chris, namely long term friend of the band Chris Oldfield, will be taking care of the laptop and DJ side of the new live setup.
Fusing technology with human rhythms, dub bass collides with dance beats, live guitar and bubbling electronics, all united by energetic MCing and sweet reggae vocals. The future may hold many challenges but Dreadzone once again rise up and confound expectations. With new tunes on the boil, this year will hold quite a few suprises as the band move forward and continue to shatter preconceptions.
