Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 April, 2009 : - - La Sauzaie, France -- The building surf conditions blessed Day 6 of the 2009 Protest Vendee Pro with consistent six foot (two meter) waves breaking over La Sauzaie for the Quarterfinals and Semifinals scheduled in the late afternoon. The young generation confirmed once again their domination with Joan Duru (Ondres, FRA), 19, and Lincoln Taylor (AUS), 20, coming out on top of the wolf pack to reach the final which will run tomorrow Sunday, April 12th around 4 PM.

Inform and rising star Joan Duru from the South West Coast of France, took command of proceedings with exceptional surfing storming through the Quarterfinals and the Semifinals with the highest heat result of the event to defeat event wildcard Tristan Guilbaud (FRA) – 18.30 points out of a possible 20 - and the first perfect 10.00 point ride so far to best New Zeland's Richard Christie (NZL), 20.

“I am so stoked to make the final because I really wanted to do well coming here,” Duru said. “It is the first year I got here early to get ready and adapt to the waves here and it's been working perfectly so far. Making the final was my goal and I hope tomorrow ends up right for me.”

Duru, who destroyed the vertical walls delivered by La Sauzaie's exceptional set up today, posted today's best scores in two heats only using his back and forehand attack to make his Protest Vendee Pro intentions clear before tomorrow's final. With a 9.63, an 8.67 and a perfect 10.00 to wrap up his day, Duru was unstoppable and will be confident when he paddles out with the red singlet on Sunday.

“I just wanted to surf at my best and let go the fins on every turn,” Duru said. “I was confident even if the conditions were tricky and I pushed my turns as hard as I could. The waves were really great and I am stoked to get such conditions and do well. Tomorrow should be good as well so I am looking forward to surfing the final.”

Duru, who will now meet with Australian surfer Lincoln Taylor (AUS) in the last encounter of the 2009 edition, will have the crowd's support towards his shot at the crown, which would be his second ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) victory since the ASP WQS 1-Star Superbock Pro in Portugal two years ago.

Taylor, who nailed his final berth in the last minutes of his semifinal against other French young gun Marc Lacomare (Hossegor, FRA), is the outsider of tomorrow's encounter and will definitely have less pressure as the Australian surfer is on his first year on the ASP WQS. Taylor, who came up with solid nerves and ss to rush back in the last minutes of Semifinal No. 2 and advcance, posted a good 8.83 point ride on his backhand to impress the ASP judging panel and better the 8.60 points he needed.

“It was a close heat and I was happy to find that last wave in the end,” Taylor said. “I wasn't expecting such a good result coming here for the first time and to make the final is already amazing. A win would be perfect and I will see how things go when the final is on tomorrow.”

Lacomare, 18, was left away from his first ASP WQS 4-Star event final, a disappointing finish for the youngman who was seen as a favourite for the crown after dominating his heats on the way to the Semifinals and posting a series of high scores including a 16.17 point heat result (out of a possible 20) in Quarterfinal No. 4.

“I am happy with that 3rd but I w as so close to making the final with Joan (Duru)...” Lacomare said. “I would have loved to surf with him tomorrow but things did not go my way in the end and there is nothing to else I could do, Lincoln (Taylor) finished with that good wave.”

Tomorrow's final will be a France Vs Australia clash, the Protest Vendee Pro Champion being crowned around 5 PM Sunday, April 12th to wrap up another great edition at La Sauzaie.

6EME JOUR DU PROTEST VENDEE PRO : UN TUBE NOTÉ 10/10 PROPULSE JOAN DURU EN FINALE

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 April, 2009 : - - La Sauzaie -- Les conditions de vagues sont particulièrement puissantes aujourd'hui sur le spot de la Sauzaie à Brétignolles-sur-Mer pour les ¼ et ½ finales du Protest Vendée Pro, étape du Championnat du Monde de Surf Professionnel. Le français Joan Duru se qualifie pour la finale en menant ses séries de main de maître scorant un 10/10 en demi-finale. Demain, il retrouve l'australien Lincoln Taylor, 20 ans, tombeur de l'autre français Marc Lacomare à l'issue d'une demi-finale à suspense.

A 16h30, lors de la mi-marée montante, l'océan recouvre la dalle de rocher du splendide site de la Sauzaie pour déployer des vagues puissantes de plus de 2 mètres, permettant au directeur de compétition de lancer le premier quart de finale. Cette série oppose le local de l'épreuve Tristan Guilbaud, auteur d'un parcours remarquable depuis le début du Protest Vendée Pro, au landais Joan Duru qui impose sa puissance avec un score sans appel de 18,30 points sur 20, reflétant les énormes manoeuvres que ce surfeur de bientôt 20 ans peut exécuter dans du gros surf :

"  Il y a vraiment de belles conditions de houle. Dès ma première vague surfée j'ai envoyé deux bonnes manoeuvres bien appuyées " Cette vague, notée 9,63 points sur 10 ouvre les hostilités sur le plan d'eau brétignollais. Joan rajoute :& nbsp;"  Je veux surfer à mon meilleur niveau car je veux me qualifier pour le WCT ; je veux gagner ici, les vagues sont exceptionnelles ! " Tristan ne score qu'une vague à 8 sans jamais avoir le dessus face à ce concurrent déjà vainqueur de Kelly Slater l'année dernière.

Le deuxième quart de la journée sur ce Protest Vendée Pro se conclut juste à la fin de la série. En effet, le néozélandais Richard Christie l'emporte grâce à une vague notée 7,33 points dans les dernières secondes, séchant son adversaire Marco Giorgi d'Uruguay pourtant en tête depuis le début du duel. Autre australasien qui se qualifie,

Lincoln Taylor surfe avec beaucoup de prise de risque pour venir à bout du bouillonnant canarien José Maria Cabrera dans le troisième quart de finale du Protest Vendée Pro 2009. Avec une vague à 9 points, Marc Lacomare atomise le dernier quart de finale stoppant net l'ascension du talentueux allemand Nicolau Von Rupp.

Profitant des excellentes conditions de vagues de la marée haute, les demi-finales sont lancées à 18h00 en séries de 30 minutes. Joan Duru démarre encore sur les chapeaux de roue pour scorer la perfection : 10 points sur 10, fait rarissime mais réalisable grâce à un tube parfait déchaînant le nombreux public massé sur la terrasse de la Sauzaie. C'est la "  Cool Shoe Best Wave " de la journée re-visionable à souhait sur Internet. Avec une telle avance, le néozélandais Richard Christie ne peut rien faire malgré ses capacités certaines à être un sérieux prétendant au titre.

La journée termine sur une déception hexagonale avec l'élimination in-extrémiste du landais Marc Lacomare pourtant leader de sa série. Au cours de cette seconde demi-finale, il se fait coiffer au poteau par l'australien Lincoln Taylor qui sort une superbe longue vague surfée dans un style très académique qui plait aux juges : 8,83 points. Marc Lacomare tire sa révérence quelque peu déçu :

"  Je suis bien parti au début de ma série. Je scorais ce qu'il fallait pour être en tête, et ça me rendait confiant. J'ai fait l'erreur de laisser remonter Lincoln jusqu'au pic alors que j'avais la priorité ". Il échoue de 0,16 points. "  Je suis déçu de ne pas aller en finale contre Joan, mais je lui souhaite bonne chance ains i qu'à Lincoln car ils sont mes camarades de chambrée pour ce Protest Vendée Pro !" complète-t-il bon joueur.

La finale du Protest Vendée Pro, épreuve WQS4* aura lieu demain vers 16h15 dans des conditions moins épiques qu'aujourd'hui mais avec un duel franco-australien de très haut niveau. Cette finale sera précédée d'une expression session offerte par la Ville de Brétignolles-sur-Mer.
