Digital Surfing Life Set to Make Waves

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 April, 2009 : - - Morrison Media and Australia’s Surfing Life continue to build a strong and diverse presence across a broad range of media. With a publishing portfolio encompassing 11 magazines, numerous books, websites, podcasts and mobile content, a brand new initiative is set to consolidate their position as the market leader in new media publishing.

As a prelude to their forthcoming Green issue, (issue 252 released July 09), Australia’s Surfing Life is offering digital editions of the magazine through leading digital provider Zinio. (zinio.com).

Subscriptions to the magazine will be available in digital form for an opening price of $1 per issue. The regular paperless-edition price will be decided based on the popularity of the new format; however it’s likely to be less than half the regular newsstand price.

Said Editor of ASL Tim Fisher, “The idea of a green issue is not a new one, but as with everything we do at ASL, this won’t be a token, one-off effort. The paperless offering and our green issue are part of our ongoing efforts to address our place in society’s overuse of natural resources, educate our readers and lead by example.”

Publisher Craig Sims expresses that this is an important strategic move for the magazine, and the company. ‘“We’re focusing on creating integrated multi-channel solutions with as many as eight media channels under the ASL brand alone. The decision to go paperless is consistent with our vision to find opportunity in the changing media landscape and be responsible about the impact we’re having on the environment.”

The digital provider, Zinio, who converts other high profile magazine titles such as Cosmopolitan, Maxim and InStyle, has secured a partnership with Silicon Valley-based Plastic Logic, who has developed the first mobile digital reader made specifically for newspapers and magazines.

About Morrison Media: Morrison Media is a unique and progressive publishing company. It’s been Morrison Media’s continued commitment to all areas of quality and service that has enabled the company to grow since the development of its first title, Australia’s Surfing Life, in 1985.

Morrison Media published titles include Australia’s Surfing Life, Slam, Riptide, Kiwi Surf, Australian Longboarding, Powderhound, Australian Snowboarder, Freerider MX, Trailbike Adventure, Frankie magazines and Visions, the Complete Guide to Surfing and Surf Stories books. Morrison Media is Australia’s leading independent action sports publisher with over ten titles across print, online and multimedia.
