Le Stormrider Guide volume 3 vient de sortir !

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 May, 2009 : - - S’il n’y avait eu que 3 ans entre le volume 1 (Avril 2001) et le volume 2 (Juin 2004), il a donc fallu attendre 5 ans pour que le 3ème et dernier volume de cette trilogie voit le jour. Le porte-conteneurs transportant une partie du stock (le reste étant déjà sur la côte ouest des USA) n’ayant pas été araisonnée par des pirates somaliens, les guides sont désormais disponibles.

Pourquoi 5 ans ? Parce qu’on s’est mis en tête de trouver un maximum de zones inconnues dont on netrouve que très peu d’info sur le web en cliquant Surfline ou Wannasurf ! Bref, des zones qu’on est allés explorer nous-même ou des gars comme Dustin Humphrey, Sam Bleakley, Randy Rarick,  Stuart Butler, John Callahan, Erwan Simon ou des bons potes baroudeurs qui nous ont ramené des infos de première main et des photos inédites.

Pas mal de zones ont été abandonnées faute d’infos fiables ou de photos dignes de ce nom et puis Google Earth est arrivé ! Si ce logiciel de vision géo-planétaire par satellite nous aide bien, il augmente aussi le temps de recherche sur chaque zone. Dans tout ça, la bonne nouvelle est qu’il existe encore des tripotées de vagues perdues, vierges, sous-évaluées…

Quoi de neuf dans ce volume 3 ? On ne le répètera jamais assez mais il s’agit de 80 nouvelles zones ! Parmi les nouveautés, on y trouve des grands pays inédits comme la Chine, l’Inde ou la Colombie qui comptent chacun 2 régions de surf. Ce sont aussi des zones de grand tourisme où la question des vagues est récurrente : Phuket en Thaïlande, Malte, la région italienne du Lazio ou Antigua aux Caraïbes.

Parmi les plus en vue pour les surfers hardcore, on a bien sûr le Pérou- Chili, la Namibie ou l’Afrique du sud. Sans oublier les endroits paumés comme les îles et ilôts de Pohnpei, Kiritimati, les Molluques ou les atolls sud des Maldives. Et histoire de montrer que les vagues sont partout, on a choisi de vous décrypter le Pororoca, le mascaret du bassin de l’Amazone en même temps que les vagues des Grands Lacs Américains.

Avec près de 100.000 guides vendus dans 22 pays (plus une édition en japonais), le guide Stormrider World est devenu la référence mondiale comme guide de surf. Quelques guides pratiques ont été édités sur des destinations mais pas sur un format A4 avec 248 pages couleurs cartographiées et pleines d’infos vérifiées ! Avec 240 zones au total sur les 3 volumes, chaque surfer devrait pouvoir trouver une destination à son goût !
