Transitioning from May gray to June gloom...

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 1 June, 2009 : - - The past few weeks have had just about the worst surfing conditions I can recall seeing during any May in a decade or so. Morning after morning in San Diego, I awaken to find onshore winds and less than knee high dribblers lapping up on the sand. Every surfer I know is going a bit stir-crazy...and even my normally amped East-Coast-turned-California friends have been giving the surf a pass lately...

Surf fever aside though, we've been busy at JettyGirl this month putting together inspirational stories like "Not About the Paddle!" by Jodie Nelson. Jodie and her friend Bridget Saeman took up the unbelievable challenge of paddling from Catalina to Dana Point Harbor ...a total of 39.8 intense miles. Her written account of meeting fear head-on, struggling against the wind and swell, and her team's ultimate completion of the feat is a must-read.

Other features this month include Amanda Rigney's story of Puerto Rico's Sormarie Nieves, Jennifer Smith breaking down fin-first takeoffs in JettyGirl's School of Sick Tricks, and an incredible video clip showcasing the talents of Australian Brittani Nicholl.
