Chad Du Toit, Chantelle Rautenbach and Matt Bromley take titles in the Mr Price WP Open

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 June, 2009 : - - Chad du Toit of Durban might have been disappointed with his fourth place in the U20 Boys Division of the Mr Price WP Open but he came back with a vengeance to take honours in the Men's final in near perfect 4 foot surf at Long Beach in Kommetjie Sunday ( June 7).

His fourth place in the 2A rated Under 20 division of the Surfing South Africa Pro Surf Tour earned him R500 while his victory in the 3A rated premier Men's division meant a prizepurse of R6000 and 1000 valuable PST points.

In a final dominated by some of South Africa's best young surfers, Long Beach local Brendon Gibbens was second, Shaun Joubert of Mossel Bay was third and 2009 SA Men's champion Gavin Roberts of Scottburgh came fourth.

In the Under 20 final Mikey February's opening 9 point ride seemed certain to give the 16 year old victory but he was unable to find a decent back up wave and SA Junior team captain and fellow Long Beach local Matt Bromley powered his way past his younger counterpart to take the win and R2000. Shaun Joubert was third and du Toit was fourth.

Chantelle Rautenbach of Melkbosstrand claimed the R2500 first prize in the 3A Women's final after posting a faultless performance in the ideal Long Beach surf. Nikita Robb of East London was second ahead of two Mr Price team members, Stacey Guy of Melkbosstrand and Tammy Lee Smith of Salt Rock who were third and fourth respectively.

The  fourth annual WP Open was a 3A Men's and Women's and 2A Pro Junior Boys Pro Surf Tour event and the first major PST event for 2009. Over 50 surfers competed in the contest which was held in good surf at Long Beach on both days of competition.  All PST events are sanctioned by Surfing South Africa and make up the Pro Surf Tour which determines the annual champions in the U12 to Open Divisions.
