Mr Price Pro Ballito Festival to run concurrent WQS event

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 June, 2009 : - - Ballito, KZN -- Not only will this year’s Mr Price Pro have a new home in Ballito but it will also have a new look and feel as the KwaDukuza Municipality stages an full-scale beach festival to complement this year’s exciting surfing action.

South Africa’s longest running professional surfing event that holds a 6 Star ASP World Qualifying Series rating offering R1.4 Million in prize-money, kicks off from June 26 – July 5, 2009 and will be the anchor event to this year’s Ballito beach festival which offers an array of fun activities for the whole family.

Music has always been associated with the Mr Price Pro and this year, South Africa’s leading leisure-wear giant Mr Price, the KwaDukuza Municipality and East Coast Radio have teamed up to present an awesome line-up of true-blue South African sound at the Mr Price Pro Ballito Music Concert presented by East Coast Radio.

On Thursday July 2, some of South Africa’s finest acts will perform live and for free to the public at Ballito’s Salt Rock Beach from 16h30 to 23h15. Featured artists include Manuvah to Land, the popular Durban band Rise, idols finalist Pixie Bennett, indie rock/disco funk outfit Gonzo Republic, City Bowl Mizers, pop-rock band aKING, Zebra and Giraffe and last but not least headline act Prime Circle.

The festival will also include the Ballito Beach Mania which will see activities on all of Ballito's beaches for the duration of this ten-day event. Beach Soccer, Beach Touch Rugby, Beach Volleyball, Daily Fashion Shows and Community Development Surfing are just some of the festivities set to keep crowds entertained. Kids can enjoy fun-filled daily competitions, giveaways and more.

For those in need of some retail therapy, the Willard Beach Car Park will be transformed into a rustic festive area - the Ballito Retail Delight. It’s streets will be lined with wooden cabins and Hawaiian stalls offering everything from jewelry, clothing, linen, sportswear, beach goods, health products and much more.

Beer gardens with live entertainment, a flat screen TV, a variety of food stalls and a Kiddies arena with micro scooters, lots of art and crafts will also form part of the retail festival.

On June 28 and 29 visitors are invited to wonder down to the Ballito Village Fiesta to emerge themselves in the realm of outdoor café society. Visitors may treat themselves to a meal at one of the local eateries or browse the shops and crafters exhibition. Artists will showcase their work at Art in the Sun, while local bands perform on an open mike stage. There will be traditional dancing displays, BMX, Motocross and Skateboard demonstrations, autograph signings by the Sharks rugby team as well as plenty for the kids to do.
