Chandler family takes the Loews Coronado Bay Resort Dog Surfing Contest
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 24 June, 2009 : - - For Scott Chandler and family it just seems like any other day surfing for them. Chandler, and his daughters Tyler and Kai, plus their 5 year old Jack Russell Zoey, have just won their 4th title in the Loews Coronado Bay Resort dog surfing contest held in Imperial Beach, CA this weekend. This was Loews 4th event and it just keeps getting bigger every year.
Thousands packed the sand to get a peek of dogs and their owners ripping it up at the now famous beach break just north of the Imperial Beach pier. Contestants flew in from as far away as Hawaii, Florida, and Arizona, to test their skills and see who will take home the glory of dog surfing champion. This event is for a good cause raising over $15,000 for the Modest Needs Foundation which helps families in need of assistance.Chandler says it’s an honor to help out others and share the sport of surfing with pet owners all over the world. Keeping 3 people and a dog on a surfboard isn't such an easy task, Chandler a pro big wave surfer and waterman made it look easy for the judges including the Mayor of Imperial Beach.
