Red carpet, auction and fashion show festivities will follow the competition at the Waterfront Hilton Huntington Beach from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
SurfinPaws Dog Jam is a surf competition for dogs of all ages, sizes and abilities that will be held at the south end of Dog Beach in Huntington Beach, California, located on the corner of Goldenwest Street and Pacific Coast Highway.
“This is Surf City USA, a surf competition for dogs is long overdue in Huntington Beach,” said René Bruce, the man behind the SurfinPaws Dog Jam. “OCSPCA’s need for funds was reason enough to make SurfinPaws happen and we’re thrilled to get this event going!”
Red carpet spectator tickets are available for $10.50 in advance and $20.50 per person at the door, with proceeds going to the Orange County SPCA. The surf competition is open to the public and free for anyone to watch.
Evening activities will be held at the Waterfront Hilton Huntington Beach beginning at 7:30 p.m. There will be a Hula themed party where pet owners can dress their dog in a grass skirt, walk down the red carpet and have their picture taken by a Pet Pro photographer. The party will feature a live band, silent auction, live hula dancers, fashion show and awards ceremony for the surf competition.
Animal Planet's Artist Knox, the famous Beverly Hills groomer, and his dog Bumpy Johnson have been invited to hand pick the (dog) models for the pet fashion show and Meleesa the Salon in Huntington Beach will be providing stylists and styling.
About SurfinPaws: SurfinPaws was started by René Bruce in 2009. It was inspired by his dog Kia’s first surf competition that was put on by a friend of Bruce’s in Del Mar, California. Kia, a seven year-old Jack Russell Terrier, is the “spokes dog” of the event.
Kia has been riding boards, scooters and jet skis since she was a pup when, at 16 weeks, her paws hit a skateboard for the first time. Since then Kia, has been featured on various news sites, Reuters, Yahoo! and even National Geographic and The Discovery Channel because of her riding talents.
