Australian Longboard Titles locked, loaded and ready to go at Country Energy Australian Surf Fest
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 July, 2009 : - - Maroubra Beach, NSW -- With the most prestigious event on the amateur surfing calendar a mere three weeks away, the best longboard riders in country are waiting, anxiously, in anticipation. Seeing 11 esteemed national titles up for grabs, the best-of-the-best will be on show at the Australian Longboard Titles in Port Macquarie; the opening event in the Country Energy Australian Surf Festival.
Commencing on Sunday, 16 August 2009, and running until Saturday, 22 August, the Australian Longboard Titles will see 180 world-class competitors competing in the under 18 boys and girls, Open Men and Women, Over 35 Men and Women and Over 40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 years Male divisions.
With an eclectic mix of battle weary veterans and new school dynamo’s ready to tear the wave rich mid-north coast apart, the cast is nothing short of world-class. All eyes however, will be on the most successful amateur longboarder in history - Josh Constable (Noosa, QLD). After winning his fourth Australian Longboard Title in epic conditions last year, Constable is preparing again for another bumper year.
“This will be my twelfth year at the Australian Titles; and I can’t wait,” admitted Constable. Winning his fourth Australian Title last year, Constable could have easily rested upon his laurels, however adding to his historic feat has become his driving force. “Becoming the most successful competitor in history, last year, realised a childhood dream,” he added. “But I’m not done yet.”
“I love competition, it’s my job, it’s what I do and I’m driven by the possibility of winning more Australian Titles,” Constable states. At 28 years of age, Constable has seen the lows and highs of competitive longboarding and watched a plethora of great competitors come, go and stay.
“The sport is always evolving which is refreshing and this event will showcase all the talent in the country.” Having stood atop the he 2006 ASP World Longboard Tour WLT World Champion, the likes of Harley Ingelby (Sandy Beach, NSW), Dane Pioli (Tweed Heads, NSW) and Jackson Close (Currumbin, QLD) will be hot on Constable’s heels.
In the Open Women division it will once again be four-time Australian Champion Chelsea Williams (Tweed Heads, NSW) who will lead the many young, fresh faces looking to do well in Port Macquarie.
