Drift Surfing Magazine forms US-based strategic partnership to bring Drift to North America
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 24 July, 2009 : - - Drift Surfing Magazine realigns brand strategy, launches new, robust community-rooted site, and forms US-based strategic partnership to bring Drift to North America. For four years Drift Magazine had been produced as a digital magazine and then a print edition - ultimately attracting a growing movement of surfers, environmentalists, artists, and ocean enthusiasts throughout the globe. Today marks the beginning of Drift’s next chapter.
Howard Swanwick, Founder, Publisher, and European Edition Editor:
“I'm very proud to announce the successful partnership between Drift Europe and the new Drift North American Edition office. We have been looking to align a North American partnership for some time now – to both be proactive in today’s fickle media climate and to stay committed to our founding principle of maturing into the first global, regionally-focused, environmentally rooted surfing media brand.”
Drift North America, lead by Editor Joe Conway, Creative Director Justen Peters, and Director Jim McGinley, will take the lead on overall creative direction while the European office will drive global brand strategy seeking to align successive Editions across the globe.
“We’re hoping to step back from and gain perspective on surfing culture collaborating with the people for whom surfing is a catalyst—from writers to photographers, artists, shapers, musicians, crafts-men and women, and activists. Divergence is the theme; completely new things happening in off-the-beaten-path places.”
Joe Conway, North American Edition Editor.
Drift is poised to bring real opportunities to those inside this movement and those on the fringe with the same values – from independent artists, to non-profits and environmental stewards, to key brands steering the market and those seeking to connect with this elusive counter-culture segment.
“For me and many others Drift is what is so needed into today’s surfing media landscape – something fresh, contemporary, and evolved with a tip-of-the-spear approach. We embrace the undercurrents that we feel are reinvigorating surfing right now: creativity, curiosity, equal appreciation for tradition and innovation, camaraderie, and environmental ethics.”
Jim McGinley, North American Edition Director.
