Garren Pryce, Shane Simmonds Jamaican Junior champs

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 July, 2009 : - - Garren Pryce of Bull Bay in Saint Andrew and eighteen year old Shane Simmonds of Boston Bay in Portland were declared 2009 National under 16 and under 18 division champions at the third and final event of the of the Jamaica Surfing Association’s 2009 National Junior Surfing Championship Series held on Saturday 25 July at the Makka surfing beach in Yallahs Saint Thomas.

The National Junior Series saw a marked improvement in the overall standard of Jamaica’s junior surfing. The under 16 division saw impressive performances by 14 year old Garren, 13 year old Ackeem Taylor and 12 year olds Shama Beckford and Ivah Wilmot who all competed at the top of their game throughout the series showing that Jamaican surfing is in good hands for the future.

The under 18 division has also seen landmark performances with Shane Simmonds not only winning the series but also winning the junior division of the recently held Makka Pro as well as taking second in the open division of the event.
