3-Star ITSA event Biscarosse, France 26 July 2009
French Cup No.3, ITSA World Tandem Tour 3* Biscarosse (FRA)
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 7 August, 2009 : - - Biscarosse, France -- The ITSA World tandem tour (WTT) 3-Star Relentless French Cup in association with OXBOW during the Kiwi surf festival resumed with the remaining of Round 2 and final being completed in classic and consistent Two to four foot (1.2 to 1.5 meter) waves at Biscarosse, FRA.
Finding their way out of the building conditions were several event favorites including current ITSA WTT ratings No. 1 Jeremy Boisson & Julie Desarnaud (Lacanau, FRA), former ITSA WTT & ISA No. 2 Rico Leroy & Sarah Burel (Lacanau, FRA) and rising French local stars Clement & Dhelia Cetran (Biscarosse, FRA), all advancing through to the Final.
Relentless French Cup defending champions, Rico & Sarah (FRA) were able to keep their chances up, the team surfers advancing through to Round 3 with a good result and confidently leading their heat from start to finish ahead of Tandem European veteran and his new partner Alban Meric & Lydia Roess (FRA)
“I am feeling great and surfed well enough yesterday and did good today,” Rico said. “The wind made it a bit harder though the final but I am here to surf and get experience before Hawaii so not really thinking any further at this stage.”
With the conditions changing throughout the day, it became hard for competitors to score big and several top seeds of the 2008 event were left away from first & second places, having to accept an early elimination. Loiic and Celine (Bretignole FRA) & Ronan & Lucile (Bretignole, FRA) were among those losing today.
Posting one of the event’s highest performance earlier in the day was French representative Clement & Dhelia Cetran (Biscarosse, FRA), the 30-year-old athlete surfing in the last heat of Round 1 to make his intentions clear with an outstanding 14.06 point heat score (out of a possible 20) including a 15.50 point ride.
“I was pretty excited as I was expecting good conditions here in my home spot,” Clement said. “It was three or four feet out there and pretty fun so I am happy with that start. I found a pretty good wave at the start and it relaxed me a lot so I wanted for the few good sections and I knew I could let go to try good lifts and get big scores.”
Cetran, who did one of the event’s top score today by displaying fantastic surfing with a mix of committed progressive turns and classic powerful lifts at Biscarosse, has been on The Grind for a few years now and is looking to get the budget for the ISA World Title next year. Boisson donated a commendable effort throughout the entire day, defeating ITSA 2008 N°5 Eric & Ophelie (Anglet, FRA) on the way to his second ITSA WTT3* Final appearance.
“I lost track of my game plan out there,” Boisson said. “I’m stoked to have made the Final and of course I wish I won, but it’s a good result.”
Eric Andre was in good form throughout the French Cup presents Oxbow WTT3* at Biscarosse event, but the French veteran was stopped short of a Final berth by good friend Julien Riviere & Marie Mespouled, finishing in fifth place overall.
Julien & Marie (Montalivet,FRA), who were the 2008 ITSA World Tandem N°14, looked determined to claim a victory in Biscarosse, but were unable to stop young French talent, Rico & Sarah and finished finally in fourth place overall, which still keeps them in contention for an additional ITSA World Tandem Tour Title.
“I’m happy with the fourth-place-result,” Julien said. “It keeps me in the running for the title and I’m very happy to have competed here and I’m excited to continue to Hawaii. Rico & Sarah (Leroy/Burel) were the winner of this contest last year and I think they found the best waves in that heat.”
“To win this event is really perfect before Hawaii,” Burel said. “I was pretty pumped to do well here so to claim the event is just what I wanted most. I felt confident throughout the whole event and especially during the Semifinals. From there, we just put everything into it and won the thing.”
Rico & Sarah, whose impressive career has already taken them to an ITSA & ISA World No. 2 rank and an European title in 2007, confirmed they were one of the most talented surfers of their generation today and will march on Hawaiian event at Queen with solid confidence. The ITSA world Tandem tour caravan will enjoy a deserved break from today until August 27, when the International race resumes at Queen (Hawaii) for the ISA World Title and the World Tandem Tour fifth event out of nine.
