PLA gears up to support dukes ocean fest, Aug 23-29

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 09 August, 2009 : - - The Professional Longboard Association is pleased to announce their support of the 2009 Dukes Ocean fest, the Toes on the Nose Rabbit Kekai Longboard Classic, and the Women’s Gidget Pro.

The PLA, which currently hosts a WLT qualifying series in the continental United States, has partnered with the Rabbit Kekai and Gidget Pro event organizers, to help expand the longboard qualifying process into Hawaii.  All Professional Surfers competing in either of these two events will not only receive ASP qualifying points, but also points towards the PLA championship series.

With the addition of this event to the PLA schedule, making the series a total of 6 events, the PLA will now drop a competitors two lowest point totals through the season. “I am excited for the PLA to be partnered with this amazing event. Hawaii is where it all started, and if things play out in the future, this is where I would like to see the PLA expand to at least once a year.

It’s the perfect opportunity, and I can’t thank Henry Ford enough for giving the surfers another opportunity to not only gain more ASP points, but also help build on our Championship Series we have created”, said Jeff Stoner, Executive Director for the PLA.

The Dukes Ocean Fest starts on Aug 23rd, but the Toes on The Nose Rabbit Kekai Event and Gidget Pro event do not kick off till the 26th, and will continue through the 29th.
