Dan Ross hits 15,000 points on the WQS, seals the deal
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 August, 2009 : - - Coolangatta -- Congratulations to current ASP WQS ratings’ leader Daniel Ross on his win in the ASP WQS 5-Star Relentless Boardmasters event in Newquay, Engand. Dan has jumped to nearly 15,000 points and is surely on the ASP Dream Tour next year. Runner-Up in the event was Txaber Trajola from the Basque area of Spain, and his second placing was by far his best career result, pushing him from 145th to 89th.
Semifinalists Glenn Hall and Wiggolly Dantas were the only other real ratings movers going from 20th top 15th and 34th to 19th respectively. Other than these two, hardly any movement as surfers seem to be finding it harder to replace their low scores than they thought it would be.
Owen Wright is in the best spot to add serious points as he is carrying a zero and low 625, while most other surfers in the ASP WQS Top 20 are looking to replace 800-plus pointers as their lowest score combined with 1,100 for the next lowest.
For these guys, they must make it at least to the final 24 surfers in the upcoming ASP WQS 6-Star events at Lacanau and Azores to better their current low points. Even then, that’s only a few hundred more so they should be looking at least equal 5ths giving 1,625 to go anywhere worth while.
