ASP Top 45 Surfer Jeremy Flores Guest Star at the Sooruz Lacanau Pro

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 August, 2009 : - -  Lacanau Ocean, France - Best French and European surfer ever to compete on the ASP World Tour, Jeremy Flores (FRA), 21, is currently having a short break from competition after clinching the ISA World title in Costa Rica lst week.

Flores, who isn't having his best year amongst the elite ASP Top 45, still remains comfortably in position to requalify for next year's tour and while spending time with friends Patrick Beven (FRA) and Michael Picon (FRA), Flores drove up from his residence in Capbreton to come and support the European contingent at the ASP WQS 6-Star Sooruz Lacanau Pro. As perfect six foot waves are breaking in the French surf town of Lacanau, Flores gives a bit of news while watching the show...

"It's great to be back here in Lacanau to support the European guys who are competing on the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS). Except for Patrick (Beven), most of the guys made it through yesterday and all the boys seem to be on fire. It's a very important event for those looking to qualify for the ASP World Tour."

Flores, who was a runner-up in the Sooruz Lacanau Pro in 2007 losing to fellow ASP Dream Tour Michael Campbell (AUS), secured his elite inception after his result in Lacanau and his unexpected visit is a good support for the only ASP WQS event in France this year.

"I just got back from Costa Rica and that title is really a great thing. It means a lot to me, it's probably the best result of my career and I am very happy. I am trying to relax but I am alwayskeeping an eye on my training and on getting ready for Trestles coming up soon (where the Hurley Pro will run in September)."

The 21-year-old surfer will head to California in three weeks for the seventh stop on this year's ASP World Tour, an event where he has had some of his best results including a couple of equal 3rds.

"I have been doing well at Trestles since I got on tour and we'll see how it works out this year. I have no pressure and just want to enjoy. I am not really happy with my year on tour so far and have been a bit unlucky in a few different heats, but I feel like I am still improving my surfing and that is what matters most."

Being a competitive surfer since he turned 12, Jeremy Flores has been raised around surfing events and said that he was looking to approach the tour differently to find more time to enjoy his career and do some trips apart from the ASP World Tour.

"I have definitely changed a bit of things in the way I live and this year I made a few great trips and went back to Reunion Island where I was born. I went there before goin to Costa Rica and it had been three years since the last time and I just had a great moment. I spent time with my family and it was just great to get back to my roots."

While friends Michael Picon (FRA) and Alain Riou (FRA) were surfing solid waves, Flores enjoyed watching and not having to wear the competition singlet, an unusual moment.

"I am really stoked to be here and just watch my firends surf. People could think I'd like to get that rashy on and paddle out but actually I am just happy to enjoy the show from a different angle."
