ASP WQS 5-Star San Miguel Pro Called Off for Day 1

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 1 September, 2009 : - - Zarautz -- The ASP WQS 5-Star San Miguel Zarautz Pro is OFF for today due to inconsistent surf in the two foot (0.5 meter) range. With a waiting period running until Sunday, September 6, and a new swell expeted to hit the Basque surf town of Zarautz from tomorrow, officials are confident to get Round 1 started tomorrow around 8 AM and run the first battles of the prestigious event.

"The fores are excellent with pretty big waves expected to break this week, peaking at three meters thursday so there will be plenty of swell," contest director Aitor Aguirremota said.

Local star and native Aritz Aranburu (EUK), 23, will be one of the crowds' favorites this week, the powerful basque surfer being a favorite in his home event beforeflying off to Californa for the next ASP World Tour event at Lower Trestles. Aranburu, who won the inaugural edition of the event back in 2007 and placed equal 3rd last year, will be much expected by his fans when he paddles out in Round 2 along with the rest of the event's top seeds.

First out tomorrow will be current ASP WQS Top 15 member Nathan Yeomans (USA), local charger Asier Muniain (EUK), Jose-Maria Cabrera (CNY) and Miguel Ximenez (PRT). The ASP WQS 5-Star San Miguel Pro pres. by Euskaltel will be web LIVE, and all photos, results ad news will be available fro Day 1 of competition.
