Ricardo Cufi - R.I.P. 1952-2009
Maui surf photographer Ricardo Cufi found dead at age 57 in his Maui home
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 9 September, 2009 : - - Ricardo Cufi of Argentina who lived on Maui for the past 10 years was found dead of an apparent heart attack on March 1, 2009. Ricardo was a highly respected surf photographer and close friend to many. Ricardo according to many was one of the best surf photographers in Maui and was always able to capture the "moment". Ricardo especially loved to photographer tow-in surfing during the large winter swells that pounded the coastline of Pe'ahi (aka) JAWS on Maui's North Shore.
Displayed below is a photo of Big Wave Legend Laird Hamilton on what may be one of, or the largest waves ever photographed by Ricardo Cufi at Pe'ahi (aka) JAWS during the winter tow-in session on January 10, 2004. At the time of his death Ricardo was venturing into aerial photography and wedding photography. Ricardo is survived by his son Richard of Argentina, sister Andrea of Spain, and numerous friends.
