Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 September, 2009 : - - The Quiksilver Pro France, the 7th leg of the 2009 ASP World Tour, will take place in France from 23 September to 4 October.  The only French event on the ASP World Tour will also be the first of the three European legs of the prestigious professional circuit that brings together the best 45 surfers on the planet.

The world's top shortboarders, led by current world rankings leader Joel Parkinson, nine-times World Champion Kelly Slater, and a historic contingent of no fewer than seven European surfers, will all be there in France vying for victory in a crucial stage of the 2009 Tour, in world class waves. 
 
We now know that the main venue for the Quiksilver Pro France will be Seignosse, on the Plage des Bourdaines beach. But, the Quiksilver Pro France – a mobile event - is designed to be able to move to the very finest spots on the coast of south-west France at just a few hours notice, to take advantage of the best waves the Atlantic Ocean has to offer, from Seignosse to Saint-Jean-de-Luz via Capbreton and Hossegor. 
 
Parkinson in pole position
With three victories (Gold Coast, Bells Beach and Jeffrey’s Bay) after five events and even an early loss in Trestles (3rd round), Australia's Joel Parkinson has staked a serious claim to the title of World Champion 2009. Behind him, it's nip and tuck between former world champion CJ Hobgood of the USA, Brazilian prodigy Adriano de Souza and Australia's Taj Barrow, lying in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place respectively (before Trestles). A winner in Brazil, Kelly Slater is currently 8th in the provisional world rankings and is lying in wait for a potential record 10th world title. But to do it, the King will have to end the season in blistering style. 
 
An unprecedented European contingent among the elite
With their ranks having swelled from four to seven in the space of just a season, the European surfers in the Top 45 have made history, and have now got surfing's traditional powerhouse nations looking over their shoulders. Jérémy Florès (France) has been in the Top 45 the longest of any of the Europeans. Rookie of the year in 2007, 10th in 2008 and current world n°16 (before Trestles), he's having a good start to the season and a fantastic win in ISA World Surfing Games in Costa Rica. The new ISA World Champion, born in Madagascar and raised in Reunion, is the natural leader of a euro group that boasts talents including: Miky Picon from south-west France, the Portuguese Tiago Pires, Euskadi’s Aritz Aranburu and three newcomers: Michel Bourez (Tahiti), Marlon Lipke (Germany) and Tim Boal (France) who have taken their first successful steps into the world of the elite.
 
Wildcards
France’s Joan and Australia's Julian Wilson will receive a wildcard to compete in the first round of the Quiksilver Pro France 2009. The third and final wildcard will go to the winner of the Moskova trials (a new brand of underwear launched by Miky Picon, Jérémy Florès, Patrick Beven & friends), set to take place on September 22nd with some of surfing's biggest budding talents: Maxime Huscenot (Fra / Reunion), King of the Groms 2008, Marc Lacomare (Fra), Alain Riou (Fra / Tahiti), Patrick Beven (Fra), Gabriel Villaran (Per), Tom Curren (USA), three-times World Surfing Champion, Dede Suryana (Indo), Matt Banting (Aus).
 
International Final of the Quiksilver King of the Groms
During the Quiksilver Pro France, 16 surfers aged 16 and under have qualified (13 internationals, 2 Europeans and 1 wild card) for the international final of the King of the Groms. They will have the honour of surfing in the very same conditions as the seniors from the Top 45. Over the last year, they have taken part in qualifying series in Australia, South Africa, Japan, Indonesia, Tahiti, the United States, Brazil, Reunion and across Europe. A total of 16 surfers from around the world, including two Europeans who qualified at Zarautz, will be competing in the world final. Last year, the grand final was won by France's Maxime Huscenot, who was crowned King of the Groms 2008 at the spot of Estagnots in Seignosse. For this 2009 edition, his successor will win a wild card to take part in the trials for the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast and the Quiksilver Pro France 2010.
 
Live webcast
The competition will be broadcast live to the public, with commentary in three languages (French, English and Portuguese), provided by specialists sharing their expert assessment and in-depth knowledge of the pro tour. There will be exceptional coverage of the Quiksilver Pro France, live over the Internet and VOD.

YUKSEK in concert at the Quiksilver Pro France
The Quiksilver Pro France will be hosting a one-off concert by YUKSEK straight after the FMX DC Show in Hossegor. Pierre-Alexandre Busson, alias Yuksek, hails from the French city of Reims. His work follows in the footsteps of renowned artists like Daft Punk, Justice or Air. A trained pianist, Yuksek became a virtuoso in the art of creating music as a producer and artist. Since his first abrasive remixes, his career has turned into the new electric success story à la française, with a terrific album and an electrifying sound: "Away from the Sea", released in February 2009 on Has Been / Sound of Barclay.

YUKSEK live in concert on Friday 25 September at the Quiksilver Pro France, Place des Landais, Hossegor. The full program of events and entertainments at the Quiksilver Pro France will be announced shortly.
 
Cloud 9 movie screening
The famous 52-minute documentary looks back at the events leading up to Kelly Slater's 9th World Surfing Championship title, and includes personal interviews with the man himself, with contributions from the likes of Tony Hawk, Mick Fanning and Jérémy Florès…  The screening will take place at 9pm on September 23rd, with Kelly Slater in attendance. Free entry.

Other surfing movies will be screened during the Quiksilver Pro France, including "Watchouch" by filmmaker Joan Duru, to be shown on September 24th at the Place des Landais. 25 minutes of all-action free surfing at spots in Tahiti, France and Mentawaii with Joan Duru & friends.

Championnat du Monde de Surf Masculin Professionnel ASP Euroforce : Le retour au pays

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 September, 2009 : - - Le Quiksilver Pro France, unique manche française du Championnat du Monde de Surf Masculin ASP 2009, débutera le mercredi 23 septembre sur la côte basco-landaise. On sait désormais que le site principal du Quiksilver Pro France sera installé à Seignosse, sur la plage des Bourdaines.

7ème épreuve du prestigieux circuit de surf d’élite ASP World Tour et première étape européenne du Tour, le QUIKSILVER PRO France réunira les plus grandes stars du surf de Kelly Slater (USA) à Joel Parkinson (Aus), en passant par Mick Fanning (Aus) et Taj Burrow (Aus).

Manche cruciale pour le titre 2009 qui se joue cette année sur 10 épreuves, le Quiksilver Pro France aura une saveur toute particulière pour les membres de l’Euroforce qui surferont « à la maison ». Aux côtés du français Jérémy Florès, sacré Champion du Monde de Surf ISA début août au Costa Rica et actuel 16ème mondial, Miky Picon (Fra), Tim Boal (Fra), Michel Bourez (Tah) ou encore Aritz Aranburu (Euk) et Tiago Pires (Port) seront tous très attendus. Tous mettront à profit leur connaissance des beach breaks landais et le soutien du public pour assurer le spectacle.

Rappelons que 2009 est un crû exceptionnel pour le surf européen qui aligne un contingent inédit – 7 athlètes – dans le top 45 mondial avec 4 français en son sein, un record !  D’autres européens pourraient jouer des seconds rôles de choix au Quiksilver Pro France à l’image de Joan Duru, récent vainqueur du Lacanau Pro et en route pour l’élite ASP.

Jérémy Florès, figure de proue du surf européen

A 21 ans, Jérémy Florès affiche l’un des plus beaux palmarès du surf mondial. Champion du Monde WQS 2006 à 18 ans, il fut le plus jeune surfeur à intégrer l’élite ASP avant d’être élu, Rookie de l’année 2007. Depuis son accession à l’ASP World Tour, Jérémy Florès a terminé par deux fois dans le Top 10 mondial, un exploit compte tenu du niveau exceptionnel du Word Tour.

C’est sous les couleurs de l’Equipe de France que Jérémy a décroché début août la plus belle distinction de sa jeune carrière en devenant Champion du Monde ISA 2009 au Costa Rica. Grâce à cette performance exceptionnelle, Jérémy a largement contribué à placer la France au 2ème rang du classement par nations de cet événement majeur, reconnu par le Comité International Olympique.

Il accorde une place toute particulière au Quiksilver Pro France puisque il a grandi à Capbreton et conserve des attaches fortes dans les Landes. Alors qu’il dispute sa 3ème saison dans le Top 45, Jérémy possède le tempérament de feu et l’expérience du plus haut niveau pour prétendre à une performance sur cet événement.

Joan Duru, le surfeur qui monte

Comme Jérémy Florès, Joan Duru a fait parler de lui très jeune, s’imposant à plusieurs reprises au Pro Junior organisé par Quiksilver à Capbreton. Ils ont dominé leur génération très tôt et cultivé un don inné pour le surf.

Joan Duru exprime aujourd’hui l’étendue de son énorme potentiel. Puissant, il possède un gabarit de rugbyman qui tranche avec la virtuosité de son surf. L’affable et discret surfeur d’Ondres, récent vainqueur du WQS 6 étoiles à Lacanau est en passe de se qualifier à son tour pour l’ASP World Tour. Actuel n°7 mondial du circuit WQS, Joan Duru, 20 ans, pourrait venir grossir les rangs de l’Euroforce dès 2010 s’il se maintient dans les 15 premiers du classement. Une hypothèse qui pourrait très rapidement se confirmer. Vainqueur de sa série face à Kelly Slater au premier tour du Quiksilver Pro France l’an dernier, Joan Duru a failli réitérer cet exploit au 3ème tour face au King avant de s’incliner de justesse.

A nouveau titulaire d’une wildcard pour le Quiksilver Pro France cette année, Joan Duru aura l’avantage du terrain et des vagues, et les moyens de jouer encore les trouble-fête.

Les wildcards

A l’instar de Joan Duru, le surfeur australien Julian Wilson se verra remettre une wildcard pour disputer le premier tour du Quiksilver Pro France 2009. La 3ème et dernière wildcard sera remise au vainqueur des trials Moskova (nouvelle marque de sous-vêtements lancée par Miky Picon, Jérémy Florès, Patrick Beven & friends) qui réuniront le 22 septembre prochain quelques uns des meilleurs talents du surf de demain : Maxime Huscenot (Fra / Réunion), le King of the Groms 2008, Marc Lacomare (Fra), Alain Riou (Fra / Tahiti), Travis Logie (Af du Sud), Patrick Beven (Fra), Gabriel Villaran (Pér), Tom Curren (Usa), le triple Champion du Monde de Surf, Dede Suryana (Indo), Matt Banting (Aus) et le Brésilien Wiggolly Dantas.

Show de FMX réunissant pour la première fois à « La Centrale »  les meilleurs riders américains et européens du team DC, dont Nate Adams

Le concert événement de YUKSEK se tiendra le 25 septembre Place des Landais à Hossegor dans la foulée du show de FMX DC. Pierre-Alexandre Busson, alias Yuksek, est un artiste originaire de Reims. Il s’inscrit dans la  prestigieuse lignée des Daft Punk, Justice ou encore Air. Pianiste de formation, Yuksek est passé virtuose dans l’art de créer du son en tant que producteur et artiste.

Depuis ses premiers remix abrasifs, son parcours s’est transformé en une nouvelle sucess story électro à la française marquée par un album décapant au son électrisant : « Away from the Sea », sorti en février 2009 chez Has Been / Sound of Barclay.

Finale Internationale du Quiksilver King of the Groms

A l’occasion du Quiksilver Pro France, 16 surfeurs de 16 ans et moins se sont qualifiés (13 internationaux, 2 européens et 1 wild card) pour la finale internationale du King of the Groms. Ils auront l’honneur de surfer dans les mêmes conditions que leurs ainés du top 45. Durant toute l’année, ils ont participé à des séries de qualifications en Australie, Afrique du Sud, Japon, Indonésie, Tahiti, USA, Brésil, Ile de la Réunion et dans toute l’Europe.

Au total, 16 surfeurs internationaux dont deux européens qualifiés à Zarautz participeront à la finale mondiale. L’an passé, le vainqueur de la grande finale, Maxime Huscenot (Fra) avait été sacré roi des Groms 2008 sur le spot des Estagnots à Seignosse. Pour l’édition 2009, son successeur aura le privilège de recevoir une wildcard pour les trials du Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast et du Quiksilver Pro France 2010.
