The Rebel Sports Pro Tour rolls into Knights

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 18 September, 2009 : - - Knights Beach, South Australia -- The fourth annual Knights Beach Pro, South Australia's premier bodyboarding event, returns to Knights Beach in Port Elliot this weekend as a part of the prestigious 2009 Rebel Sports Pro Tour.

As the penultimate event on the 2009 Rebel Sports Pro Tour, the Knights Beach Pro is and has traditionally been a key event for any riders hoping to win the Australasian title. With an honour roll that reads like a who’s who of international bodyboarding, the best of the best will be on show this weekend.

Having seen the likes former champions Andrew Lester (2007) and Dave Winchester (2008) take the crown, the action this weekend will nothing short of electric as competitors fight tooth and nail to become the Rebel Sports Pro Tour Champion.

Sprung from humble beginnings in 2006, with a field of no more than 30 competitors,  the event has grown phenomenally and this year will see the world’s top named bodyboarders, including the likes of Winchester and local lads Eli and Dylan Beach.

The first three years of the Knights Beach Pro have scored perfect surf conditions and beautiful weather to contest the event and officials are hoping for the same grace this weekend. "September is a really good time for surfing in South Australia, we have good swells, good weather and often days of offshore winds,” Contest Director, Tim Doman said.

"This is my favourite event on the surfing calendar, it is always such a spectacle to watch the guys throwing it all on the line at Knights". The action kicks of on Saturday the 19th of September, with the event to be streamed live at knightsbeachpro.com.

The Knights Beach Pro 2009 is supported by The Government of South Australia, South Australian Tourism Commission, The Office of Recreation and Sport - Be Active, Coopers Brewery, Swellnet, Surfing South Australia and the International Bodyboarding Association Australasia.

About the 2009 Rebel Sports Pro Tour: The Rebel Sports Pro Tour defines bodyboarding within the Australasian region.  The sponsorship includes the naming of the Australasian Pro Tour, naming of the bodyboarding national titles, a Rebel Sport Pro bodyboarding event, a RAW pro junior series in the summer plus an exclusive IBAA/Rebel Sport merchandising arrangement.

The Rebel Sport Pro Tour will draw approximately two thousand competitors, competing on the Australasian professional circuit for points and prize money all in a bid to be the annual tour champion, the most prestigious accolade in Australasian bodyboarding.  Attracting some of the worlds biggest bodyboarding names, including the likes of Dave Winchester (2008) and Andrew Lester (2007), The Rebel Sport Tour will be at the summit of professional bodyboarding.
