Local Motion Guaruja Surf Pro will be the 100th WQS Event in Brazil
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 September, 2009 : - - The Local Motion Guaruja Surf Pro will open the Brazilian leg of the WQS World Tour next week at Tombo Beach, Guaruja, Sao Paulo State. The 6 Star contest will be the 100th WQS Event disputed in Brazil since 1992.
The Local Motion Guaruja Surf Pro will start on this Monday with the finals hitting the water on Sunday (October 4th). The 2th Event of the tour in Brazil will be The Rio Surf Pro International presented by Oakley, another 6 star event from October 5-11 in Arpoador Beach, Rio de Janeiro.
Beside this two great events, ASP South America also announced another 3 Star WQS Event, The Billabong Surf Eco Festival will be held at Aeroclube Beach in Salvador City, Bahia from October 22 to 27.
The Billabong presents Surf Eco Festival also will decide the four surfers from South America who will compete in the next ASP World Pro Junior in Australia and the champions of the 2009 ASP South America Surf Series, who defines the best surfer from South America in 2009 season.
Beyond that, Brazil will have the privilege of closing the 2009 Women’s WQS Tour, the 5 Star event will be disputed together with the Men’s Event in The Rio Surf Pro International presented by Oakley in Arpoador Beach, Rio de Janeiro. With Arpoador Beach also hosting the Oakley Rio Pro Junior, penultimate ASP South America Junior Event of the year (October 16-18).
WQS HISTORY IN BRAZIL – With more three events being held in Brazil in the next month, Brazil will complete 102 WQS events in 29 different beaches since 1992. The only country who has more events is the USA with 159 WQS Events.
Barra da Tijuca Beach in Rio de Janeiro is the beach with more events (14) and the Brazilians Neco Padaratz and Peterson Rosa are the two surfers who most won WQS contests in Brazil since 1992, with 7 events each. Neco who is in 34th position in the Ranking confirmed his participation in Guaruja and Rio.
After Brazil the 2009 ASP WQS Tour goes to Canada, with a 6 star event from October 25-31, and them to four 6 star “prime locations” Events, one in California and Canary Islands and two in Hawaii.
